This isn't new (e.g. Damon Bailey) and it won't go away. Now the question is, what harm does it do to the young players? I am not close enough to any player that has gone through this and I can't answer.

I have mixed feelings on reaching out to young teens over their athletics, but there isn't anything that troubles me about universities reaching out to kids to promote them toward an education. This kid will have a dozen influences between now and next May and some of them will have a positive impact on him. He already knows he's bigger than the rest of the kids and he's not so stupid as to know he's going to be watched closely on several fronts. If UE is one of those positive influences, that's a win for everybody. A lot of superstar athletes get the wrong message. Aside from that, this "offer" is as useful to me as the insurance company ad telling me I could save "hundreds" of dollars.

Ok. What are you saying? Nothing in this thread shouts out systemic recruiting violations. Not saying there is a violation. I was talking about recruiting in general for all sports. No way should 14 year old kids, who haven't even stepped foot in a high school should be receiving offers. They can get a verbal offer at any time but a basketball coach is not allowed to talk to kid until summer going into junior year(June 15th after sophomore year). I’m not saying you’re wrong, because I’ve always heard of rules similar to what your reference, but there is clearly a loophole or a rule change that makes it allowable to talk to younger kids. We’ve had multiple kids (Jaylen, Ty Price, the 7 footer and PG from St Louis) that are sophomore or below come to UE on visits and post about it publicly. The P5s do plenty of the same things and recruits post about it publicly, so there’s some way legally around that rule if it does exist. I get what you’re saying about offering kids like that, but in my opinion, it’s perfectly fine as long as you intend to hold up the offer all the way to their senior year. I believe UE will 100% hold up the offer on all the young studs they’re recruiting an it’s in their best interest to get in early and make a strong impression before the competition ramps up for them. If UE were to offer young kids and back off like plenty of P5s do, then I would have a problem with that, but I don’t think that will be happening anytime soon.

USI becomes the second D1 school to offer the incoming Reitz 2027 high school freshmen. UE was the first back in September 2022 (nine months earlier):

I really hope he stays at Reitz all 4 years. No reason not to.
