Going to be a rough weekend for the volleyball team as the matches only get harder each day/match. Hopefully we will learn from these matches and be better from them later in the year.

Random thoughts -- Hopefully the team stays positive after the weekend and realize these matches will make them tougher in the long run. --Fernando not being there makes it harder on the team. ---Wish we had Vazquez and Feliciano playing to gel as a unit and gauge where we are against P5 competition.

That's essentially what I tweeted on the teams account. Adversity leads to good things happening.

UE loses to #15 Baylor in straight sets. gopurpleaces.com/news/2022/9/10/volleyball-ue-tripped-up-at-15-baylor.aspxOn a positive note, the Puerto Rico team did pretty well only finishing behind a dominant Dominican Republic team and the USA team (who they split matches with). Cuba, Mexico and Canada respectively finished 4, 5 and 6 to round out the six team tournament.

Fernando was back for the Michigan State tourney, but my understanding is that he is now in Holland/Netherlands for the 24 team World Championships. Puerto Rico will be competing in Pool A from Sept. 24-Oct 2. Depending on how well they do, hypothetically Puerto Rico could be playing all the way through the championship match on Oct. 15 ---- en.volleyballworld.com/volleyball/competitions/women-worldchampionship-2022/schedule/If the above stated info is correct, this is a long time to be away from the team. How much effect does this have on the players? I am sure they support Fernando, but some might question how well a head coach can have dual commitments to both programs. Also, what if you have a recruit on campus for the MVC opener this weekend and they are not able to meet the coach? --- We are unexpectedly 3-11 going into conference play...hopefully the early tough competition has us ready for the MVC and we live up to our preseason pick to finish in 2nd place.
To be clear, I fully support Fernando as our coach for UE, but being realistic about the challenges of the dual roles.

Great win against Illinois State on Friday, then we did not let up against Bradley. This had to be our most complete team effort of the season. I was at the Bradley match and we definitely played as a team and were mentally into the match!
I am hearing that there will be a decision with the return of Feliciano in the next few days. I was told she still could redshirt this year and maintain 2 years of eligibility.
