Noticed USI picked 8th in OVC while UE picked 2nd in Valley in Volleyball. I wonder if USI and Lindenwood will tend to get less respect and picked lower in all sports than they deserve because they are in their first year of transitioning. Until they prove themselves. USI beat UE last year in exhibition play. I hadn't realized that. Thanks for sharing, AceScott. That is interesting that USI beat UE last year. I did not see that on UE's schedule/results from last year but do see it on the USI website: USI Volleyball rallies past UE in exhibitionWith that said I would expect us to win in straight sets; but you never know as the results from last year prove. We better come really to play. Should be a lot of excitement and fans for this one.

I was at the game tonight and heard someone tell Ziggy it was a sellout. The crowd (with many student athletes present) was energetic and mostly UE with a few USI fans there.

Great atmosphere out there! Rags was throwing Tshirts into the crowd, exciting match!

This will develop into a good rivalry with USI. Their head coach Randi Raff most recently spent time at Georgia Tech as recruiting coordinator and has already seen success at USI in the past 3 years. They have a young squad and quite a few kids from our 3 state region, which I believe helps with attendance. On our side, Fernando has done a good job recruiting Indiana and local kids too.

VB had a poor showing this weekend. I can see the losses to a much improved Western Carolina team and Northwestern, but losing to an 0-5 TN Tech team today is not a sign we are headed in the right direction. Hopefully we rebound at home against TN State, but next weekend we could get swept again down at the Baylor Classic. Right now I am predicting a 5-9 record going into MVC conference play. Hope I am wrong!

I agree totally with your assessment and prediction, 65PointGame. Even the match against Western Carolina I think most of us expected to win. The pattern in their matches is a bit concerning to me as well. They tend to have a good, competitive first set (even beating undefeated Northwestern in the first set); however, they tend to fade after that and the sets get less competitive.
In most sports it’s not how you start but how you finish that is the important- with that being said it is easier to win if you get out to a good start but not if you fade after that. I hope they figure things out quickly, especially before conference play.

Looks like Vazquez did not play in the three games in Tennessee. COVID is hitting campuses and K-12 schools hard again as the semester begins. Although it’s not making headlines like it was, it may impact availability of players in various sports. Don’t know anything specifically about volleyball team, but a few cases on a team can shift outcomes even if they have enough to play. Hopefully, this performance is a fluke.

Another tough night for the ladies. Lost 3-1 to Tennessee State (1-4) going into the match. Vasquez still out and Feliciano looked liked she was playing hurt. The ladies looked tired after the second set. Not a lot of rotations it seemed. Coach Morales was still out. Hopefully this non-con is getting them prepared for the Valley.

Vazquez is most likely going to be out till MVC play starts. Competitive first set tonight, but just couldn't get over the hump. #4 is a big hitter for TN St. It was hard to stop her. Hopefully we can manage a win or two at Baylor this weekend.

Looks like Vazquez did not play in the three games in Tennessee. Coach Morales is away coaching the Puerto Rico national team. Since Vasquez played earlier this summer with the national team I am guessing that she is away also with the team now.

I am not sure what the agreement is between Fernando and UE concerning the PR national team duties, but they probably allow it because they figure it is good exposure for UE. IMO

Puerto Rico has games through Saturday, the 10th (most likely). Puerto Rico was doing good till they ran into the Dominican Republic’s team last night who has not lost a set in the tournament. Here is the link to the tournament/results. Coach's comments after the Dominican Republic match: Picture of Morales at the game against the Dominican Republic: Puerto Rico's win versus the US:

Thanks for the info AustinAce. The player(big hitter) I mentioned above for Tenn State, #4 Johanna Alcantara happens to be from the Dominican Republic.

Bad news for the volleyball team. Arguably they will be without their two best veteran players and their head coach. Hard to see them winning a game this weekend against the level of competition they will see.
Time for the next “man” up. Should get some great experience this weekend and hopefully it will pay big dividends in conference play. Hoping we are healthy and rally to start conference play.
Go Aces!!!
