I assert this on kuhlman. Busted his ass today. I will take that effort all day long.

Initial thoughts fresh from the game. We looked soooo much better than we had in any Valley game to date (except maybe the first 37 minutes against Valpo at home). We got down by 18 early, brought it back to 13 at halftime, and battled hard the rest of the way. I liked our hustle, and as a result we shot much better. It's crazy how that works. Now, to argue a point I was making before. Kuhlman had a great game today as far as I'm concerned. I know he was 0-5 from the field and went 1-2 from the line, but he contributed in other ways. I believe this was his season high in minutes, and he was playing in crunch time which means that the coaching staff has confidence in him. He drew at least 4 fouls that I can remember (including a loose ball foul and a charge), dished 3 assists, contributed solid defense, and most importantly committed no turnovers. On the "terrible" sequence in question with about 5 minutes remaining, it was pretty clearly a 15-foot shot which is one that he should make, but much more forgivable to miss than an 8-footer as some were saying. The bad shot under the basket looked worse than it was, as he pretty clearly got fouled with no call, and then he DID hustle back on defense but he's just slow as hell. His teammates are supposed to pick him up in that scenario and let him rotate to a man on the wing while they take the trailer in the lane. Now, you can hold his slowness against him, but I will not stand for anybody questioning his hustle. He gave everything he had tonight, and I urge you to watch the replay to see that. Also, GTFO with complaining about Riley on that dunk attempt. If he shoots a layup and it gets blocked, you would all grumble and groan that he should have tried to dunk it. I applaud the attempt, and it was a hell of a play by McMillan to block it (and still easily could have been called a foul). I'll stay TF in, thank you. Riley held the ball a fraction of a second too long. Kiss it off the glass and it's probably an and one with the defensive player hitting KJ's hand or wrist. I'd file the dunk attempt in the category of selfish play or 'hero ball' we see posted about on here often during the MVC 0-fer. KJ was going for pretty over practical. And yes, with all of the losses lately, I would have grumbled and groaned with a missed layup too. Agree to disagree on this. Every player with the athletic capability is taught to dunk the ball whenever they are given the opportunity because it has less of a chance of getting blocked than a layup. Again, heck of an effort by McMillan on that play, but KJ is doing exactly as he's taught. If you want to argue the merits of dunks versus layups, that's a separate argument but one I will certainly take you up on.

If you look at the stats we got beat at the free throw line. I think they made more free throws than we attempted.

My thought is KJ has marginable ability to dunk in a game situation and should have used the rim as a protector and gone for an opposite side layup. But hindsight is 20/20. Very good effort today.

Hate to be pleased with a loss, but I saw a lot that I liked in this game. It was kind of like it's been all season. One step forward, and then one step back. Everybody played hard, and for the most part, to the best of their ability. We were a DeAndre away from winning this game. If we can get him back, and if he is close to 100%, I think we can still impact the final standings this year. If he can't come back, then I think we are a last place team, but we are going to scare the hell out of some teams. Coach L was the right way to go, and if we can recruit the right players, I think the future is bright.

The block on Riley's dunk was a great play by a defensive player who gets called for a foul on the road. It's hard to pin anything on that play when being down 26-11 is about standing around and not attacking the rim. I paid some attention at courtside to TL and how he managed the game. There is communication. A full 40 is lacking. I think Valpo got cocky and let the Aces back in it.

Looking at the Box Score and results. Our top 4 scorers had 16,12,12,11 while theirs were 16,12,12,8. OUr next 4 is the difference. We had a respectable 3 PT shooting of 40%. As pointed out they beat us in FT. They hit 17 which was more than we shot. Homer calls. see the big difference was the adjustments we made at half. In the past games it didn't seem like we made any.

I just got to watch the game on replay.
1. The coach got the players to play. The defensive effort was fantastic. Have never seen Sam play that hard. Really good stuff.
2. KJ is a liability at the point. While Givance cannot finish at the rim, he does keep the ball moving and players work harder off the ball while he is in the game. We dug deep holes while he was not in the game.
3. Hall has got to get bigger. We need him to help on the boards.
4. Every team that shoots better, looks like a better team.
The fans needed this game today. Not a win, but it seemed like the players cared.

Much better effort today - agree with a lot of the posts. Probably one of our best of the year. To me we played unselfish ball today and we did the things you have to do. We also showed hustle and heart today that’s been lacking. I too liked Kuhlman’s effort today. Newton played his best game - really was really happy with his play. Frederking played well. Also Cunliffe played a much better game too.
We did a better job of getting good shots today. Got a lot more shots around the basket off of cuts and screens. Big positive.
Riley still has problems playing the point. We made our best runs when he was off the ball or not out there. He made good plays when he caught it on the wing and drove and finished or fished off. Thankfully I think Lick is going to have him doing thar as he did that more today than any other time.
Overall, encouraging

Lickliter is a seasoned college coach. If he can land the quality recruits we will continue on our path of respectability and hopefully some post season action beginning with an N in the next few years. I hope we can keep the guys on the team now and those who have shown interest in being an Ace over the last weeks and months who can help us "play team basketball" and do the things the team needs to do to improve, win and do so with high character making us all proud.

I just finished watching the replay, I wasn't able to watch it live My expectation from only seeing the halftime score was not what this game was I agree with most post about the game I thought that the restored confidence came from the fact TL was now the permanent coach. The stability is the coming about for this team They remember Nov and Dec 2019. Their play shows it tonight!
Thought they played their heart out to get the win today. Peace Ilegomah got his 1st point as an Ace
If they play Wednesday,as the Aces played today, they'll be tied for 9th place with the redbirds. Nothing would please me more than to get the win over mueller's redbirds

I thought the effort was excellent today. You could see it in their eyes, especially in Sam’s. While Sam missed several close in shots they were right there and I believe they will start falling. Many times we saw his true athletic ability and he literally towers over many of his opponents. If he can continue working on his penetration and Coach Lickliter has his weak side ready for the dish pass we can really get some offense going. His rebounding is excellent when he wants to get to the ball. It’s in his court to be as good as he wants to be.
Others on the team have their strong points and just need to be utilized properly. As in all athletes they have individual weaknesses and those must be hidden. I’m not saying that Coach Lickliter is a magician but he certainly had extraordinary success at Butler. If he can make individual changes on this team and modify the offense and defense we may see a team that performs like we hoped. It’s going to take some time and there may not be enough to see the results this year but they are coming.
Coach Lickliter has made a living recognizing basketball talent. Next year has already been set absence any more departures and once we get DeAndre back the Aces will be firing on all cylinders. I like the fact that Coach was at Castle HS to look at a couple of Southern Indiana players that could fit into the Aces of the future. While the trip was short it shows his personal interest in the recruiting process. It goes a long ways toward getting future commitments.

Great effort today, they had every reason to fold at halftime. So happy to see Noah get out of his slump. Still time to fix this and the beauty of college basketball is that anything can happen in March.

I have a gut feeling that this team has finally had enough of the type of basketball we have been playing. I think we will play like we are capable of - remember we have had some good/great effort for many games against good opponents this year. Surely it is time to start believing in ourselves...and playing with the potential we showed early - the two factors we have lost are confidence and energy - I don't think this team wants to allow this "broken" label to be our legacy. I feel that youth, energy, pride and restored vision will work together to shed this "trampled on so we've given up" image that these conference games have highlighted.....I just feel that it is time to show what we're made of, and I believe it will start at Valpo tomorrow! Climb on up here, in these orange & purple clouds with me, Secty! go aces! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Our view from the orange and purple clouds was exciting today....our coach and our team brought that youth, energy, pride, and FOUGHT to show they are coming back! Very proud of the effort today and hope it carries over through the game this week (Ill. ST)...and then, look out....ALL of Evansville should be there on Feb. 1 to support the team against UNI!
