I feel for the Ladies. They tried their best but they ran out of gas in the 2nd half. Caitlin Clark is an amazing player. She's probably better than a lot of the men's players in D1. Our Ladies won't quit and they will compete with most teams in the MVC. Clark is scary good. I didn’t get to see the game but I think she could score 35-40 every night if she wanted to. Her scoring is down a bit this year because she is trying to include her teammates. From the box score it appears that their key inside player Czinano did not play. This was a tough trip but good experience for the Aces. Some of the bench players got good minutes against two good teams. That will help in the long run. I think Thurwalker has been injured and that is why she didn't play in the first 9 games.

Take away Clark's 44 points and we win this game. Seriously though, tough game but hopefully a good learning experience and barometer for areas that we need to improve going forward.

Watching the local Des Moines news just now. They said that the 44 points were Clark’s personal best and a Carver Arena record. Then the sports guy went on to men’s scores and said “It was a tough day for Evansville…”

Despite this incredibly rude bucket of cold war in our faces this weekend, I think UE's coaching staff can identify what has to change. Some teams have a 4-mile head start and we all knew that. Drake was one of those teams. The Iowa game is patent proof of why there are 3 levels of women's ball. The Aces are in the 2nd tier, moving out of the bottom tier with this enhanced vision. I never expected to lose by 40-some to Drake but reality has a nice touch.
Rude bucket of cold water. I'm still a fan of this team.

Clark’s 44 points were an all-time Iowa record, men or women. The men’s record was 41 by Luka Garza. I was surprised their men’s record was that low. Besides Haffner’s 65, I would guess that that Larry Humes and maybe others have had 40 point+ games for the Aces.

We just played the 2 best wbb teams in Iowa and I think we battled. We were missing our starting PG and starting center (for whom we have no real backup option)
Drake was coming off of a loss they played poorly so they were out to redeem themselves. Had we played them a week earlier it would have been closer.
Caitlin Clark is one of the best players that big ten wbb has ever seen and is easily a national POY candidate. She is a stone cold killer. That being said, we really fought and davis and feit showed that they can deliver against all levels of competition and aren't just showing out against mediocre competition.
This was also the back end of a double header so that is just going to make them tougher and prepare them for something that evansville wbb hasn't seen in awhile...postseason tourneys

Besides Haffner’s 65, I would guess that that Larry Humes and maybe others have had 40 point+ games for the Aces. Actually, it's pretty hard to score 40 points. The main reason now is that you don't get to shoot enough free throws. In the case of Humes, they double-teamed him. Haffner's game is just a miracle of getting enough shots to fall. Remembering the only guys who could ever consistently do that from my youth -- besides Larry Bird -- Pistol Pete and Earl the Pearl, who both averaged that. Modern players just don't think of themselves as scorers if they are really good at the game. Many of them are happier with a double-double than 40 points and zero assists.
