Love it! Some thoughts after listening: 1) Yes, both at Fifth Third. 2) Additional offense will come from 2nd chance offensive rebounds and transition offense we didn’t have last year by design. Better shot selection is another key for efficiency when shots aren’t taken in desperation with an expiring shot clock. Those things have been previously mentioned by coaching staff and others. 3) While the emphasis on putting points on the board is important because it was a struggle last season, the Aces ability to defend will be a major factor in the team’s success this year. I’m just as excited to see how well we have developed defensively.

Pretty generic review. For both guys to be ecstatic about the start of the Ragland era they both chose the under of 4.5 valley wins. No love.

It’s going to be a vey tough league this year. With new teams, the full impact of the transfer portal, and new, aggressive coaches at UE, Murray, and ISUr, I can see why the pundits are going with teams like Drake, Bradley, etc. who have a strong returning group.
The message the prognosticators send is pretty simple. You gotta recruit better to keep pace. You need a cohesive and well coached squad that has talent AND believes in itself. AND when the season begins in earnest, you’d better have the cojones to battle to the very end, because there are going to be a lot of MVC games that are decided by 6 points or less this year.

UE will have more depth than it has had in years, which will translate to better finishes by players who won't be too tired to shoot free throws or play defense the last 4 minutes. I think the buzz will translate to maybe 4,000 rooters in the Ford center. That is contagious. This operation has already succeeded for both men's and women's teams. You have to win the fans back. That was the hardest thing to do and I think they did it. The next step is also easier to identify and that is to continually tweak the roster. There is no longer a need to beg 5th year guys to come back because it's easier to do that than to recruit real players. (Covid year not being able to recruit is partly to blame for that.) I also think this would be better if they had a football team.

I think they're off base with their scoring analysis. League average was about 71 points a game last year. We were at 59. Just by our style of play and hopefully open and unrushed shots, we would make 5 more baskets a game (not including 3s). I think scoring won't be the problem. They didn't even mention Matus and his shooting and barely mentioned Marv. Our problem will most likely be the unknown of defense.

Thanks all for listening, we appreciate it.
We plan to have Anthony on as the season is rolling, and have a much more in-depth breakdown. Tough to not be generic when we’re breaking down 12 different teams.

I believe that is a realistic yearly goal.
In regards to the football team, I believe Prez P was at Stetson when they brought back their dormant football team in 2013, so he may be the man to do it. If basketball does it job and raises the profile of UE, enrollment stabilizes to over 2000, and all other facility improvements are complete...then maybe 5 years from now it may be considered.

Unfortunately football will NEVER be considered again.

Aces&Eights, sounds like you are privy to more info on the status of football than me. No more football...is that pretty much what you have been told by the "powers in charge?"

Unless some wealthy football alum left the school millions of dollars specifically for the revival of the program I would say no chance. The program was sold down the river in the late 90s along with the equipment, stadium, practice space...etc.

The program was sold down the river in the late 90s along with the equipment, stadium, practice space...etc. Not having any facilities is the biggest downer there and spending the money on it would be resisted. It took a long time to replace those stone-age dorms. The only way they could do it is for the city/rich donor to build something that is a multi-use facility, and that has too many problems attached to it. Pioneer football is still a great entertainment value for students and pure football fans.

If any member is truly interested in the most comprehensive history of the UE football program check out the following facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/166480244004006 university of Evansville Football Friends and Alumni. You won't be disappointed except for the fact the UE no longer has a football program.
