I suppose a statue in front of Ford would be all right but Sloan never had any connection to that building. That would be splitting hairs since probably nobody on the UE campus ever met the guy. I suppose his family will weigh in on that.

Recognizing the programs history and most iconic player would be beneficial as both a tribute, as well as illustrating the rich history to younger fans and the public.

If I had the only vote, I'd put it in front of Carson. If somebody else disagreed, that would be all right as well.

Agreed, it's tough. The Ford Center would be more visible, but it is owned by the city. They would probably want one for Mattingly, Griese, Marcia Yockey and John Cooke.
Actually, a nice spot might be the median for the boulevard section of Walnut in front of Carson. It would be kind of cool at the beginning of either ends, so you would see it straight ahead as you approached it, or in the middle. Either way, decorate it with lighting, plants and possibly a water feature.

The Bird statue in TH is a "destination" for numerous travelers off of I-70. You wouldn't believe how many hoop fans exit to the city downtown area, stop & pose for photos alongside the 17' tall Bird statue. With the E-ville Casino now land-based, this would be an added feature to the area.

Why not rename Walnut Ave Jerry Sloan Way? Goes between The Ford Center and the hotel, also goes by Carson Center. Walnut does not have a historical meaning that is linked to anyone. Heck, walnuts aren't even the best nut (cashews).

Heck, walnuts aren't even the best nut (cashews). Personally, I would be in favor of doing something like this. But logistically, it would be upsetting to a lot of businesses, and more so, homeowners, from downtown all the way to Vann Ave. who would have to change their address on everything. Think of bank cards, driver's licenses, etc. Employers and kids' schools would be involved, it would not be fun for those involved. If only the part of Walnut between Rotherwood and Weinbach were changed, then it could maybe be pulled off. UE would be the only place affected. Years ago, before the houses were torn down and much of the street eventually closed off, Memorial caught a lot of flak when they tried to rename Bennighoff Ave to honor Don Mattingly. They had to end that idea. He now has what was the far north end of Main Street, running in front of and beside Bosse Field named after him, but the ballpark was the only place affected by that change.

Agreed, and also too bad something wasn't done years ago when so many Evansville people who saw him play and were big fans were still around. To the large majority of today's local citizens, they weren't around when Sloan played and so whatever may be done likely won't have the same meaning.
