Julian Norris could become the next big Evansville high school basketball recruit amp.courierpress.com/amp/3231811001?__twitter_impression=trueHe’s heard from over 20 college coaches (since just last week). I didn’t realize his maternal grandfather was Derrick Dowell and his great aunt is Cheryl Dowell, both Bosse greats from the 1980’s. “Norris is ranked 136th nationally by Rivals in the Class of 2022. A 6-foot-3 shooting guard with an explosive shot and the ability to score at all three levels of the floor. A dynamic athlete that shot 48 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore now has the attention of several high major programs. There are two scholarship offers thus far: Middle Tennessee State (April 2) and Murray State (June 16). But his phone is blowing up. Here are some of the schools that have been reported to have contacted him or reached out to Bosse coach Shane Burkhart: Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa, Cincinnati, Xavier, Missouri, Evansville, Western Kentucky, Ball State, Miami (Ohio) … several more.”

I’m sure this kid is going to be a star for someone. To shoot 48% from beyond the 3-point line as a sophomore is phenomenal and I’m glad to see UE is in on ground floor with him.
For UE to have a shot will depend on whether Julian wants to go to school close to home, a school that he could drive to in one day or really get away like East or West coast areas. Maybe if we get the right assistants one of them could develop a strong relationship and lock him up.

It is interesting that Trey Hall also attended Link Prep in Branson, MO for his senior year. According to Trey's UE roster profile ... "Spent his final high school season at Link Year Prep in Branson, Mo. where he registered 14 points and 7 rebounds per game."

I have but one question, for a kid that was being projected to be a big time player, why the lack of offers? Even UE has not extended an offer even though they have been offering other guards. The door is starting to close on the November signing period so I hope Julian has made the right decision.

Morehead will be a good fit for him. UE may not have been a good fit, due to our “high academic standards.”
Seriously, I’m proud to be an alum, but sometimes I’d like to see us a bit more welcoming to local kids. I KNOW guys on UE basketball teams of the past who might have “not met our standards,” but we’re still good students, graduated, and added a lot to UE basketball.

Maybe he didn’t want to sign with a team who has a lame duck coach and no AD??
