Many have stated optimism that with an off-season of time and work coach can get his offensive and defensive systems installed and practiced. The kids have been off campus for a few weeks now and it doesn't look to me that they'll get back before June. Early thoughts on the effect of the lockdown on our teams progress for next season?

I don't really think it will have that much of an affect. They will have approximately 6 months to get it together if they can get back by June. If they can't do it that time frame then another month or so won't make that much difference. How ever much optimism I had going into last season is how much I don't have going into the upcoming season. I will not be predicting that they will not be a Thursday team. Of course, a lot will depend on what Lick, and his staff can bring in during the off season.

To me we desperately need to quickly figure out who is leaving, who is staying and the number of spaces available. We have a major shortage of talent (shooting, fundamentals, size, etc) so it is critical we get new guys in here and the longer it takes for that to happen the worse it is going to be for us. In addition to that - a lot of the current players need to have a crash course in basketball fundamentals. Too many guys can't do basic things and those things take time to learn. In order to get out of the bottom 4 it's going to take a major overhaul of talent (in my opinion), major improvement in fundamental basketball and this is really going to throw a wrench into that happening - so, yes, I think this really hurts us. The way it stands now - I think finishing out of the 9th or 10th spot is going to take a miracle. It looks very bleak to me.
I really hope I am very wrong

Assuming we have a positive outcome by summer, this isn't likely to be a turnaround point for Aces basketball. Recruiting hasn't happened. Then again, maybe some athletes are taking a look at staying closer to home when they move on to college. Doesn't mean the 'local' talent is an upgrade, but it might end up being that.

I really hope I am very wrong I agree with this. We were really sloppy at times last year, so time together with the existing team for any new recruits is crucial. I am really interested in seeing if anybody else is leaving. If they are leaving lets get it moving so we can get some new folks in here. I want a big guy who is strong enough to hold his own on defense down low and rebound. There are a lot of people out on the transfer portal, not saying that is the only option, but maybe we can find somebody to help out down low for a year or two. According to Verbal Commits people are getting offers everyday, so I am very anxious to see if we can add somebody to blend in with the existing talent we have. The key point though is this team has some talent, but we need an influx of talent to go with DeAndre. It was painfully obvious that we had nobody to take over once he went down. My hope is Samari can fill some of that void, along with some new talent as well.

My guess is that Coach Lick is doing exactly what we are discussing - finding out who is staying and who is leaving. I believe he is also discussing assistant coach positions. I have a hunch he is going to retain Logan, but will be in the market for two more of his own assistants. We can only guess whom might be candidates. I also believe the coach has already spoken with some of the players whom he knows are staying and has them on some sort of an off-season schedule.
Recruiting activity supposed to open up next month. We will see what the NCAA decides. But we can be sure Coach Lick already has a list in hand of what players he is going after. Despite the virus, I am sure he has been quite busy in preparing for next season. I simply hope "next season" (this fall) happens on time...I am not at all convinced of that at this point.

I agree with you. I would like to think coach knows who is staying and who is leaving. I hope he can get us a big boy and can get us a real smooth long range shooter. As for next season, I am really concerned if we'll have one. I really think this coronavirus will begin to slow down soon. I just hope there's no overreaction and things will get back to normal without everyone trying to be overprotective.

Coronovirus isn’t over until there is a vaccine, an effective treatment, or herd immunity is obtained...ie 50 to 70% of the population immune either from vaccine or exposure.
I have the credentials and background to say that, not just shooting from the hip. Vaccine is the preferred route, and I anticipate that will be ready by early to late fall.

I think there is a fair chance that a lot of collegiate sports programs will be put on the shelf for the season, especially football teams that require a spring camp. If the budgets run thin (and they will if the public is broke) there's also going to be a serious need to divert resources. Basketball might be one of the few sports that emerges.

I don't understand this dead period until mid April. If you look at Verbal Commits there are people committing all over the place. Pittino was able to get 6 recruits in like a week at Iona. Anybody else confused on this deadline? Also, am I thinking correctly. At the present time do we have 1 scholarship available since Marcus left? Trey Hall should be taking K.J.'s spot.

As for the football, the long -range on that is the 592 bowl games they play after the season, which really are nothing more than a tourist peel for the cities that host them. With no season, or not much of one ... how many of these things will go belly up? They can come back next year but maybe there are contracts that run out. The power conferences will be all right with most sports. We knew that, though. The Valley might even be pretty solid. I don't follow the MVC's version of football, so whatever on that. I would not be surprised to see the Pioneer League football fold up.

I don't understand this "dead period" either, in light of the signings of Pittino. The Aces, with Samari and Hall coming on board would still give the Aces one more scholarship to use (someone correct me if I am wrong). I expect at least one more player will transfer, but could be wrong.

If, by transferring out, we would lose ................. um .......... well, it wasn't anybody who helped us win games. There are plenty of 2-star players out there. The big problem is paying attention to who transfers from other places. This is not going to be a good year to recruit players. Too many variables that have never happened before.

If I were Lick, I'd be looking into a "shared formula" for using Heritage Hills' 6'2" PG, Simon Sherry, who's signed w/ UE Baseball, but was recently selected as SW IN Area HS Hoop POY. If anything, he could "walk-on" and if he cuts the grade in UE's backcourt, Lick & Carroll can hash out the details.
