Choices can definitely be generation dependent. However, if any fan cares to look For that reason, in any fan who would care to divulge themselves into the past of Aces basketball, there is no possible way that either Humes or Sloan could be left off any bodies else's all time team.
Sloan plays in any era, and so does Don Buse. I'd have both on my team but for this exercise, if I can't have one, I take the other. Humes, any era. I recall the talk in 1965-66 that Humes only scored 30 ppg because Sloan got him the ball. The 65-66 season, Humes scored 30 a game and had Ron Johnson getting him the ball. Being 6-4, his role might change today.
I agree on the quality of D-2 play, especially games at Roberts. There were Big 10 teams that couldn't stop Humes or keep Herb Williams off the glass.
Balentine is a mystery to me. Same with Colt Ryan. In the right mix, these guys are useful but not the stirring straw. I like Giddy's numbers but his style isn't going to fly with the team i want from this mix.
Sloan or Buse 5
Humes or Wilson 5
Ryan or Balentine 3
Brown 1
Taylor 1
I think the Taylor as a 1 is a cheap buy with the right offense.
Nobody plays harder than Jaylon Brown.
I prefer Simmons over Ryan but the numbers are what they are.
This team is small.
Closing my eyes and trying to remember Shy Ely's game.
As an aside on D-2 ball from my memories -- two of the best all-time players are D-2 products -- Earl Monroe and George Gervin. You could include Dwight Lamar if you wanted. And Dallas Thornton.
Remember when George Gervin during the NCAA tournament game in Evansville, I believe in 1972, when he punched the Roanoke player? As you might expect, that caused quite an uproar.
