Guys, Feel free to discuss the coronavirus or anything else in the off-topic forum found on the main page. This thread is on the basketball board, and is titled final thoughts about the season. I am going to delete the posts that have nothing to do with this. Again, feel free to re-post your thoughts in that forum. You're the admin but frankly imho that kind of discussion belongs NOWHERE in this forum. Off topic,to me, construes discussion about other basketball topics outside the Aces programs. Peace and carry on.

Having had no reason to engage in basketball discussions and essentially determining that I need to stop arguing with people on sports forums, I will engage this topic. There's nothing about the world around us that deserves an analysis. We don't know much. I concede to being very afraid, not so much for my future but for the world that will evolve if we aren't prudent. That all being as much as I care to contribute on that, back to UE basketball. Obviously we need better players. We need a renewed tradition and something that uniquely points people to the Aces. There is a simple way to start. The uniforms. Find some that fit, unlike the tents they tried last year. The sleeves are the Aces. I found the Trafton moment on Twitter and thought, I loved those shirts. That is all. Be safe and secure. All losing streaks come to an end. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJZuZzU2Vsg

I moved the above post from stennisrm, because I realized it to was now off-topic of the thread it was in.
I appreciate the input as always. My idea of the Off-Topic Flower Shop board was just that. A place where we could discuss anything we wanted that wasn't related to the Aces program. I have seen some rather active ones on other boards. There are a lot of posters whom I enjoy reading their opinions on things, even if I don't agree with them, and would enjoy engaging with those same folks on issues that aren't tied to UE or even sports for that matter...especially during the off-season. Unless you wander into the cesspool of social media...twitter, facebook comments, etc, there aren't too many places for civilized conversation on various issues. I also see this as a potential resource for referrals and help questions, such as recommendations for a good mechanic, or new restaurant. I personally got sent some great information regarding cord cutting on that board.
Imagine this as if it was the old Flower Shop...aka Forget Me Not Inn. You walk in and grab a stool at the bar, alongside all of us regulars. During basketball season, we are pretty much talking about the Aces. Today, it would probably be the coronavirus, or what should be done to the ampitheater, or who has the best cheeseburgers, etc. I have no intention of censoring topics on there, unless they violate common sense rules...vulgarities, threats, etc. As much as I would hate it, have at it on national politics. I am a big boy and can scroll past threads I have no interest in. If a couple of posters want to have a 20 page thread in a meaningless argument over Pelosi vs Trump, then have at it. Just keep it civil and in the appropriate thread. Just remember, politics and religion can turn best friends at the arena into enemies. Use common sense, and frankly, do keep religion off of it.
If you have opinions agreeing or disagreeing, please feel free to opine below.

All these memories of a team that caught the attention of the sports world, The Evansville Purple ACES....if this world ever returns to "normal" I believe Evansville can do it again. It's must be the Ohio River, this city, a basketball -crazed state....and the thrill of watching a basketball team from a small university compete successfully in a 'Big Time " environment. I hope our history has put down strong roots that are recognized by the administration at UE as being a vital part of the university's being. What a year we have endured, program-wise and health wise (as the entire world has)...if and when we get through this, I can't help but think that teams like ours that have been such a personal part of so many local fans - a team that is truly a community team - will be supported and cheered!
Thanks to so many of you for sharing your memories!

Thanks to so many of you for sharing your memories! I wonder what the modern university IS trying to sell to students who have to borrow $90,000 for tuition. "Oh by the way, we have a team here." It is sort of amazing when I look for the old clips that I post on the other thread, the history of this team -- moments that are special to all of us and I should think, special to many people who followed the Aces from from the smoky nights in Roberts to the tragedy of '78 and finally the emergence into a legitimate D-1 program under Walters and Crews. All of this is based on the hope/dream/prayer that what the world is facing is some sort of nightmare that will just somehow end and go away. I guess I can rag on the recruiting since I saw what we ended up with -- a lot of young guys who tried to win but couldn't. Better players going elsewhere or coming to UE only to find themselves overmatched and outcoached. If UE is serious about anything, it would behoove them to at least tell the fans that they understand this problem and realize that they need to try to fix it. "Oh by the way, the fans used to come to the games but they don't know because, you know ... Harlaxton." You can't extend the contract of a woman's program coach who has 10 wins in 89 games and convince me you're paying attention. How could a kid from Indiana or W. Kentucky NOT know that UE is "Mecca" for a player? Well, WE think it's Mecca. I have no idea what the kids are being told. Still, you can't sell a CIT title to a player now. You can't show them films of games at Roberts. They don't care. But you can sell them on the idea that winning as a team will mean playing games that matter. Now, bring back the sleeves! Please.
