I liked Marcus a lot. A fine young man with potential. I doubt he’ll land in the AACC or SEC, but I could see him at Furman, Wofford, He’ll make some team a nice 20 min. Per game player.

Marcus is one that I wish would stay. We lost a good one.

Marcus is one that I wish would stay. We lost a good one. Marcus was a good player but he wasn’t able to crack the starting lineup or get much playing time as a freshman. Maybe by the time he was a senior he could be a great player. Maybe not. The easiest position to replace on a team is a guard. There are a ton of them out there. I’m not that concerned about him leaving. We will be ok with his replacement.

Just now, WEHT ran a story on their sportscast.."another transfer for the University of Evansville Men's Basketball Team. The dominoes are falling, Marcus Henderson is the latest to announce he is transferring" Seriously, that is how it just went. They went on to say he signed with Flagler University.
Whoopee. I just don't understand why they are sensationalizing something as if he just did it. Of course, no mention that he saw little playing time, and apparently didn't fit in the future of the program.

The sports guys have nothing to report or get excited about thus them trying to make a big deal out of old news.

D2 Flagler College? Pretty school in beautiful St. Augustine, FL. Our 2 previous recruits going to UMKC and IPFW, Peace is a bust, now Henderson going D2. Not saying much for the McCarty recruits.

And now we know why 3 sometimes 4 of Marty's former recruits started or were on the floor at the same time.Walts recruits were not much better than Marty's kids.

I actually think Marcus would have been pretty good for us. IMHO the reason he didn’t play a lot was we had eight upperclassmen on the roster (seven being juniors) out of 14 players on the roster. As a freshman you have to pay your dues. At a D2 school he will excel. I’m guessing the decision to go D2 might have come down to not wanting to sit out a year but I am just guessing. Of the three players that have entered the transfer portal, Marcus was the one I hated to see go most with him being just a freshman.
The main players cutting into his playing time would have included Shamar and Juwuan (sophomores) and Art, Sam, Noah and KJ.
I wish him well.

I agree that most of the Walt recruits weren't game changers but that was a transition recruiting year that most coaches endure. It's rare to get that lucky in the first year even with Walt's perceived connections. The reality is, I think a coach wants to recruit a team, not singular players. It's a recruiting model and it needs to be modified for obvious reasons. I don't think Henderson was much more than a role player, but when he was in the game, he needed to do one thing -- drill 3-pointers. It's not like the opposition was going to automatically let him do that.

I really liked Marcus and think he could have been a good player for us. If our roster had not been so filled with guards and wings with experience, he would have played more. And just when he started getting some minutes, he went down with the injury. He can be a star in D2.

He is a starter at Flagler which just received the #1 seed in the South region of D2 NCAA tournament. There is a chance he could be back in Evansville for the D2 Final Four.
