If anything, the AAU atmosphere of this tournament should be an overture of reward for the players & coaches. I do believe the Sycamore's participated LAST YEAR, winning a game then losing to E. KY (?). Just not much inspiration in these games...
ISU was seeded #1 in the '23 tournament in the Ocean Center.

look to be a 15 or 16 seed, versus a 1 or 2 seed

Official announcement from UE. I don’t mind giving the senior class a few more games. Hope they make the most of it though and we don’t pay $30k to be one and done.
I posted the 30k amount a few days ago, not sure if that is the exact amount. Last year was 27.5k, so with inflation I figured 30k. Also, the organizers offered some money back to a team's NIL collective if they made the semi-finals and final game.

Glad to hear. I guess Antony’s article last year when USI participated in the CBI was either wrong on the .500 record or better or they changed the rules. His exact quote was “… All of the participants in those in-season events qualify for the CBI as long as they finish .500 or better...” This should be a good experience for the team and a good stepping stone for next year. Realistically the CBI was the best we were going to do even if we won a few more games. Since we didn’t win some of those close games we are likely to be a lower seed and have a tougher first round game. CBI website: collegebasketballinvitational.com/Looks like you have to win four games in four or five days, depending if your first game is on the 23rd or 24th. I hope we play on the 23rd. Looks like the first two rounds are on FloHoops and the last two rounds are on ESPN2. Last year’s CBI results where #15 USI lost to #2 San Jose State by 25 in the first round (as a .500 team) and #1 Indiana lost to #8 and eventual CBI runner up Eastern Kentucky. dknetwork.draftkings.com/23641020/cbi-tournament-2023-bracket-results-scores-winners-live-updates-daytona-beachIn 2011 we participated in the CBI and beat Hofstra and lost to Boise state in close games. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_College_Basketball_Invitational

They did both, but if they had not finished 500, they would not have made the tourney. Interested in seeing who else is in the CBI this year, although, I am surprised we got the invite.

Not sure I get the difference between USI's scenario last year and our's this year in regard to why they had to have a .500 record, and we didn't or if it even matters. Maybe it was because USI was in a transition year. Not sure. Just glad we are getting the opportunity to participate.

...Interested in seeing who else is in the CBI this year, although, I am surprised we got the invite. - Looks like Arkansas-Little Rock might be another CBI candidate. They had 21 wins and lost to Morehead State in the OVC championship game. Their NET rating is 182.
- According to this site (which I cannot vouch if it is accurate, losing teams don't usually get into the CBI but on occasions it does happen:

Glad we’re playing another game. It also gives plenty of time for preparation and healing Ben. And a nice trip to Daytona. And I agree, a post season appearance sure can’t hurt recruiting.

The .500 record stipulation was only to guarantee an invite, they still may of been invited had they been close to .500. Last year there was talk of Detroit Mercy at 14-19 possibly being invited so Antoine Davis could best Pete Maravich's scoring record. They did not get an invite and Davis finished 3 points short of the record. A wise decision in my opinion.
I was told on Saturday that we were probably going to get an invite, so I knew .500 rule did not technically exist.

These guys have experienced blow outs, where some of our talent could simply say, "what's the point, what else is there out there"? Recently they've shown that for sustained for periods of time they've played heads up with top 50 teams. This could be a catalyst to build on this, where they just may say, "hey, next year we could have pay-back time on these Vally teams". The more they play, the more they bond.
Plus, I want more Tanner Cuff.

I just think the CBI is a nice outlet for players to see if they have "one more in them." It seems Marcus Wilson was involved with that tournament last year. Honestly, I hope Ragland uses the games to work on some things that didn't get past the drawing board during the season. I am hoping for 3 games at least. Most likely the eastern and southern mid-majors will be heavily represented.

Most likely the eastern and southern mid-majors will be heavily represented. 3 games would get us into the semifinals that will be aired on ESPN2. I hope we can get that far. A strong performance on a national TV game would be well worth the price of admission. We’re likely going to be a 14-16 seed though, so we’ll have our work cut out for us. If we can win the opening game, I like our chances of making it to the semis. This tournament will likely have its strongest field in awhile since the NIT cut out the auto bids for midmajors, so teams like UALR and High Point will likely only have the CBI to be able to continue their seasons despite having great regular seasons.

interesting to see if Ragland gives the departing Seniors 30 minutes a game as a departing gift, or plays the underclassmen more as a preview of the future

interesting to see if Ragland gives the departing Seniors 30 minutes a game as a departing gift, or plays the underclassmen more as a preview of the future I think he will just play it like a normal game and do whatever it takes to win. If we end up down by an insurmountable lead, I think he’ll let the seniors ride it out as long as they want. That seemed to be what he was doing at the end of the Drake game. Letting the offense run through Kenny every possession for the final 2-3 minutes until he pulled the seniors so they could get an ovation as they went to the bench.
