I noticed that Bailey had on his warmup jersey during that last time-out, so he was obviously not going to be a go-to guy those last minutes. It's possible he wasn't feeling well but I know Ragland was on him a bit about that foul toward the end of the half. I wouldn't try to make more of it than that, although he's a guy who was brought in to take minutes away from players like Bobe. That all said, he's a frosh, still under 20 years old and not accustomed to basketball at this intense level. Attitude is a word, not always a state of being.
A guy who has disappointed us is Kalle, who ought to be absorbing minutes in the paint. When the Valley refs get through picking the bones of the non-preferred programs, the UE depth will be fully tested.

Gutty win today. We matched Northern Iowa shot for shot in the 2nd half and needed each and every one.
Huge shot by Tanner to seal it in OT after missing a couple and credit Antonio for making that pass and trusting his teammate when he had a phenomenal game himself and could have tried to be the guy to take that shot.
Night and day difference in the talent level upgrade from year 1 to this season. To have 5 different guys score 20 or more in a game and one of them not be Kenny speaks to the depth and offensive skill this group possesses. By no means is that a criticism of Kenny who was asked to do a ton last season and has been really good this year even if his PPG isn't as high.
Feels good to win a conference game, our offense is still ahead of our defense and credit UNI for hitting some tough shots. BYU is going to be a huge test, they are nationally ranked for a reason but it's fun going into games with the expectation that our Aces can compete and win games.
Finally, welcome to the club UNC Wilmington, you'll always think of Rupp and smile from today forward, trust me on that.

Totally awesome win today! I'm looking forward to watching the ESPN replay ... speaking of which, we had great recognition from Mid_Major Madness ...

NOW can we get 7k+ next home game? Sheesh, these Aces will respond with greater energy if you just get back to watching UEMBB in person @ the fabulous Ford Center! And just think what a boost for downtown businesses if crowds return in force! Go Aces! We won’t get 7k for two weekday home games against OVC teams, but if we can keep going and come in to the new year at 10-3 or better, I would expect 7500 for the 1/6 Murray state game between their fans and ours. They’re running a promotion for $15 tickets anywhere in the stadium for that game. Time to start telling your friends and family to buy tickets and get out to see this team. We need to get close to selling out the lower bowl before it even crosses Murray fans minds to look into buying tickets.

Fantastic performance today - we really needed to win that game with that many people there and they did. I thought that was the best crowd as far as energy goes in a long time. Really made a difference down the stretch.
Everyone contributed and made plays and that's what it's going to take. And I just have to say - I mentioned a couple weeks ago about Hughes looking to develop that mid range jumper and he really looked good on those today. He took three of them and swished all of them. That's a perfect shot for him - and it will be tough to stop with his high release. And Cuff played another really strong floor game and nailed the biggest shot for UE at home in a long time.
Thomas really bounced back well after a rough game in Springfield. Haffner looked a lot better and kind of got screwed by the officials (a lot of that went on...) on that call in the 2nd half (no call when he got hammered and then a pitiful call on him on the other end when he did the same thing they did to him.
Keep playing like that - and the crowds will be good. I'm not as worried about the numbers as I am the energy from the crowd. It's going to be tough in this day and age to get much more than 5,500 for afternoon games. Too much going on.

Attendance: 5014 -- We get screwed by hockey again. -- Even a 3 or 4pm start would be better. Exactly this! 1:00 pm starts are tough on attendance, especially in December. This was the 2nd one with more to come. The Ball State game was an early one too.

I thought Haffner came out of his shell a little bit today. He had 8 points and was actually looking to score instead of going into hiding. I dont think he played 5 minutes after he picked up his 3rd foul.As far as Bailey he doesn't show a whole of emotion anyway. At about 16:00 in the second half he was bent over, clenching his wrist. He made a jumper in the lane shortly after that.

The bald ref screwed us the entire game.. He is horrible and should be reported to the league office. And I rarely complain of refereeing. His bias was blatant. It’s always good when you overcome that and several mental mistakes to learn lessons and STILL win. Baldies name is Jeff Malham. He has been doing Valley games for a few years now. Pretty pathetic effort on his part today. That idiotic held ball call took the cake though. 15 seconds, up two and the ball after an UNI miss, everyone in the building knew Antonio was going to get mugged, he does by two UNI players right in front of Malham and he blows held ball and hands the ball back to the Yoonies, who were able to tie the game to send it into OT.

Agree with your thoughts. For all you Bobe haters out their the kid played a hell of a 2nd half and OT. Really good defense and patient on offense. Question why Bailey was benched so long in 2nd half. I thinking his attitude. Watched him on bench during 2nd half. Not really clapping are yellowing for team. He seemed to put his warm up on and checked out at that time. Showed no emotion after game was over and a win. I question if he will make it through the year. Unless he was hurt. but I doubt that. My biggest concern if I had to think of one would be Bailey's "me" attitude. He is good, knows he is good and can be really good IF he stays the course. He must be a team player as his time will come, his minutes will come and so will everything else with it. He is a freshman, not perfect, plays with emotion so hopefully his attitude will not become an issue. Hopefully the coaches/parents will get hold of him in a positive way if they see what we see. I hope DJ can help him work through it if he's feeling disappointed. He took a back seat to Colt his freshman year and became the career scoring record holder. Patience is a virtue but I'm afraid he'll bolt after the season.

Regardless of the outcome of ISUr v MSU, UE will move into the top 5 of the MVC and the Younies will be in the basement. Someone ask Chad who the embarrassment is now.

What a team win. A different guy seems to step up every game with either big shot/key play or big time 40 minute game..this time it was Thomas. UNI is tough. Not sure why I thought the 10 point early lead we quickly built up at 19-9 would stick around as it vanished before the half. UNI is so well coached, good shooters, good at the line, disciplined, unselfish and so tough to guard and tough to beat. Still scratching my head how we beat them at our place last year. Few thoughts..glad coach stuck with same starting line up and allowed the guys who were making plays to stay in the game and the guys who were not playing as well on either side of the ball to sit the bench. We are 6-1 so any kind of shakeup could make waves we don't need to make. It's all about minutes and who is on the game at crunch time to me. We do need to play smarter at at times with less emotion at times. Few examples: Bailey creating the foul in first half when Haffner had the wide open lay up on the breakaway Strawbridge fouling them with 4 seconds to go in the game Thomas for not calling TO or passing the ball to wide open Cuff with 14 seconds left in regulation. Haffner who took a shot in the lane and still got up and scored and really showed some guts ran down and got called for an immediate foul. Maybe he did not really foul the guy but the ref saw the intent/emotion/anger. For this team to win games we should win we cannot beat ourselves with stupid plays and selfish basketball. If we can be smarter with the basketball and be unselfish, eliminate the one on one stuff we can continue to improve and win games. If we do not, we will not win the games we should win. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer as we won the game and it was a real gut check. This team does not fold, does not choke and that is a great thing to see by such a new group of guys who have only played and practiced together maybe 2 or 3 months? Fans..not sure of the crowd, would people say maybe 5,500? I was a bit disappointed we did not have 7,000+ to be honest. It will take some time and more and more wins with this exciting basketball team to really get the numbers up to where we all want them. Terrific start to the season. Go Aces ! How we beat them last year is they didn’t have Heise and Hutson. They are a better team than last year, but we are as well!
