Swope is a lock for newcomer of the year. Also I was wondering how bad his knee injury is According to the Sycamores' fan forum, Swope will require surgery on his knee after the season, but according to coach Josh Schertz, should be able to play the remainder of the season. After reading the last few pages of their Valpo game thread, Swope apparently injured his knee on Dec. 5 at Northern Illinois, and has been playing (mostly at a high level) on the knee since then. Always hate seeing a player get hurt. For a while, he was one of the most exciting players in all of college basketball.

Cooper Schweiger has had a good season, but I would be surprised if they gave it to him over Overton since Overton is putting up the exact same stats on a borderline NCAA tournament team and Schweiger is filling the stats sheet in a lot of blowout losses for the last place team. Yeah, the team that wins should rightfully scoop up most of the awards. That said, there are some really good players in the Valley who are just "good enough" to beat the hell out of you. Three players I wish the Aces had -- Benson from Miz State, Hickman from Bradley, Okani from UIC. There might be others.

Ben makes second team Kenny makes third team and all defensive team Chuck makes freshman team, but third in FOY Hughes makes freshman team Tanner makes newcomer team This is best case I see right now. Things can change in the next two weeks, and currently I see Hughes and Tanner on the fringe of these teams. And lastly: Rags finishes third in COY voting (Shertz, DeVries) Top frosh is probably Schweiger from Valpo, but he's not a lock. I think B-Hum is a first-teamer and I will be surprised and slightly miffed if he isn't. The thing is, to be a first teamer on a bottom half team, you literally have to be the “only player” for that team, and lead them in everything by a lot. That is not the case in this scenario. Yes, he has been our best player, and very well rounded, but honestly, would you consider this team as a whole better than last year’s? That is what the voters will look at. Also, if we consider, there are a couple of locks on first team (Tucker, Leons), and a couple that are as close to locks as you can get (Johnson, Swope), that leaves several players to fight for that last first team spot including Kent and Avila at ISU, Clay from MSU, Tyson at Belmont, Hickman at Bradley, Big Ben right here, and Okani at UIC. Lets not forget Born and Heise at UNI, although Born has played his way out of lock status. Second team is a lock for Ben, but I could see Kenny slide up to second team also. Just be interesting to watch.

Second team is a lock for B.......... up to second team also. Just be interesting to watch. (Shortened your comment for brevity.) The 12 teams in the conference can produce 3 or 4 quality "all-something" teams. As I've watched them, B-Hum is one of the best. But to agree on this: No, you can't bump somebody off the ceremonial team just because ... to that end, it's an endless debate. I don't think UE is in double digits without Ben. I also don't think Sick State is more than a .500 team without Swope. I also think Donovan Clay can measure up in the NBA. I don't have to prove that, do I?

My belief is, Ben has out played two that are on the list of four (Leons, Johnson), and could be up there with Tucker as far as top player goes. Unfortunately, 10th place (and back doored at that as we couldn’t lock it up at UIC) is not going to work in his favor. Now, a couple of wins against SIU and Sicko State may sway some things his way, but it has to be done.

In my opinion, Avila is a consensus 1st teamed and Swope is the one that will be falling. Avilas stats are far more impressive than Swopes. He’s got more assists, way more rebounds, and scores close to the same while being more efficient doing so. He’s the key to ISUs success, and the MVC & National media love him. Not sure who all votes on conference players, but I would think he’s the guy that comes to mind for most beat writers when thinking ISU. No disrespect to Swope, but Avila is the guy if anyone in ISU is a no doubt first teamer.
I’m not so sure on Leon’s being a first team lock either. Bradley’s got 3 guys that are all pretty close statistically and all very important to their success. It’ll be interesting to see how the voters handle that. All 3 definitely belong on an All MVC Team, but I’m not sure where they’ll end up when voting is done.
In my opinion, Tucker and Avila are locks and one of the two will for sure be the Larry Bird Player of the Year depending on how the remainder of the season goes. After that, there’s 7 or 8 guys that all have good first team arguments but only 4 spots for them.

You could rank these guys in any order, but if you picked an all-MVC team based ONLY on how these guys played against the Aces:
NJ Benson, Mo State Matthew Lee, Mo State Tytan Anderson UNI Nate Heise, UNI Quincy Anderson, Murray Rob Perry, Murray Christian Davis, Bradley Darius Hannah, Bradley Connor Hickman, Bradley Toby Okani, UIC Isaiah Rivera, UIC Jayden Brownell, UIC Darius Burford, Ill State Myles Foster, Ill State Mal Poindexter, Ill State Ryan Conwell, Ind. State Jayson Kent, Ind. State Isaiah Swope, Ind. State Isaiah Stafford, Valpo Cooper Schweiger, Valpo Darnell Brodie, Drake Atin Wright, Drake Kevin Overton, Drake Tucker Devries, Drake
... and the Aces would be: Ben Humrichous Gage Bobe
Belmont is a TBA. Carbondale College is a TBA.
There are way too many guys named Isaiah.

Nobody from UE on 1st thru 3rd teams or defensive team. Humrichous on newcomer team and Bailey on Freshman team. Surprised Kenny wasn’t on all defensive team. Second in the conference in steals. Guarding multiple positions. Ben easily would have gotten at minimum 3rd team if he was healthy

Guarding multiple positions. Ben easily would have gotten at minimum 3rd team if he was healthy Kenny played great defense all year. Appreciate his willingness to take a lesser role on offense for the good of the team. I thought this was his best year by far. Tell him thank you for coming to UE!
