As expected, we will have to earn respect.

As expected, we will have to earn respect. Bulletin Board material ... I sure hope we shock a lot of "experts" this year. The Aces appear to be a VERY connected team ... and a lot better prepared, with plenty of drive and determination for this season. The roster looks like it has a lot of depth at every position, more skilled players throughout, and a lot more possible lineup combinations to throw out there. It will be interesting to watch the October 10th scrimmage to see if they could be the "real deal" this year.

My prediction is that no matter what we will all leave Meeks Madness on the 10th thinking this team is the “real deal”. I know I left last years thinking the offense would be much improved and the team would win far more games than they did. Hard to draw real conclusions from a scripted practice/scrimmage, but I am still excited to see the new team in action.

The difference between 4th and 8th in a 20-game season is 1 win. I don't see anybody going 1-19 now and nobody is going to run the table. If the preseason puts them 11th, I can as easily say they are 1 or 2 wins out of 7th place. The secret is to win at home, do some damage on the road and keep the customer satisfied. Nobody gets paid for pre-season predictions unless the person making them has a job doing that. Wow, such sweat about detail.

Definitely have to earn respect as the preseason KenPom ratings just dropped:

Harry Schroeder wrote a synopsis of this year's Aces team. He sees definite improvement to all areas of the roster. As we all know, he says the emergence of the defense will be the big key on how this team moves up the MVC ladder. In my opinion, Michael Day could be a force to shoring up the interior defense. His size and physicality could be a big positive for this year's team. Hopefully, Sekou can remain healthy. I haven't seen Josh Hughes in action, but I have read lots of great comments on his ability. Obviously, Humrichous is a great addition in many ways for this year's team. He is a guy that has size, can score on the inside and outside, and seems to put forth great effort. bustingbrackets.com/2023/10/06/mvc-basketball-preseason-power-rankings-for-2023-24-season/3/

An 80-spot drop from UIC to the Aces suggests something that can't be explained away by "respect" alone. I can't say UIC is 80 ratings points better, but it seems the 332 is just a number attached to a team that hasn't come out of the locker room yet. Dunno, give me a half-dozen games to see if these guys have any wings.

Atlanta Ace has me on a short name-calling leash so I won't call him a dolt, but I do agree with you. I have never seen a player with wings. I cringe when hear "experts" refer to a player's wingspan. At best, they have arm and fingertip span. Thank you for correcting him. He probably also thinks that players can have physics-defying extra hang time or play above the rim without helium assistance. Basketball enthusiast Sir Isaac Newton was quite clear about that. It was settled 300 years ago. I'm less certain that there is "no such thing" as respect except in post-pre-season points in time. I'll have to think on that.

Polls generate interest and help sell tickets. We will continue to have them no matter how we feel about it. I predict that the Aces won't finish last. Even Ken Pomeroy understands that he is beginning with a thinly calculated guess that grows more useful as the season progresses and statistics get wings.

I'll have to think on that. UE had a player named Adam Wing, so we can to there if we want. Honestly don't know why anybody would be such a lame-bass as to take exception to a comment about 'respect' when the whole thrust of the rating post was about the Aces being designated as the 332nd best team in the U.S. based mostly on not getting much respect. Had I read that, I'd have just moved on and not proven I have a bad attitude. But there are symbolic phrases, some that claim a pitcher has an electric fastball or that shooters are taking "floaters" in the "paint" ................. HAIL MARY! But I suspect ol' Rex is gonna bad-rap every post I include this fall and winter, which should make the board a joy because I plan to respond to each and every one of them. That will doubtless invoke some angst among those who are less tolerant of petty arguments. So either ol' Rex can act civil or he can destroy the forum. Not my problem. I can't begin to tell you how petty this can be.

Official preseason predictions are out on the conference website. UE picked 11th, ahead of Valpo. Strawbridge 2nd team all conference. I noticed 2nd and 3rd teams have 6 players. First team has 5. Hmmm...

There is not enough time in the day for me to follow you guys around and remind you of the name calling. I've edited posts in the Valpo Insanity thread. That's enough with the name calling. Aces 44, please, and I'm asking nicely, edit your post. Geezus.
