Pretty disappointed in the defensive effort of the scrimmage. Didn’t really gain much insight into the team based on that. I do think the starting lineup for the orange team was likely our starting lineup for the first game. Thomas Haffner Strawbridge Humrichous Toumi These are usualy Offensive affairs. Don't want anyone getting hurt taking a charge or diving hard for a loose ball etc. I agree. Don’t need to be giving full effort but I thought it was much worse last night than in years past. The womens scrimmage wasn’t playing game level defense but nowhere close to as bad as the men’s.

I’ll guarantee that Rags told them to have fun and put on a show. I can say first hand that they don’t play like that in practice. They really do get after it. No need in a player getting an injury last night. Besides, Rags was walking around talking to anyone that would listen last night.

I like the starting five mentioned, good size and lots of experience.
Thomas Haffner Strawbridge Humrichous Toumi
Lots of things appear different about this year's team, but I think the depth stands out to me the most. Every player has been mentioned at least once about making a good impression or showing promise on the court. The second thing would be our size at the 4-5 spots, they could rotate four 6'9"-6'10" players in the 4-5 spots. We have been so weak at the 4-5 spots the last many years, nice to see this get addressed in Rags' first full recruiting season.

I didn’t see any of the Meeks Madness as I don’t live anywhere near Evansville. One comment I will make is that most people don’t come to games to watch defense. This was made quite clear when Simmons was here.
The videos posted were quite informative however and I believe we will see a much improved offense. Hafner showed us something we haven’t seen in some time, someone who can shoot lights out from distance. He was a shooter last year as a freshman too.
It may take some time for this team to come together as they are all new to the program except for Bobe, but then again they may surprise us.
It’s almost here so stay tuned.

We certainly have upgraded the size and versatility at the 4 and 5 positions, which is good. My only concern would be the lack of bulk especially at the 5 as all of our big guys are pretty lean. We will see how we match up with some of these teams with a 6’10” plus center who weighs around 300 pounds. But we are certainly more capable of guarding a player like this by throwing multiple bigs at a player like that where in the past we just couldn’t defend a player like that and it cost us a few games that we otherwise would have won.
Looking forward to the season.

I learned last year that Meeks Madness is a waste. I made better use of my time this year. But, I'll go out on a limb and say that this will be a better team. Yes, it's a sturdy limb considering the purple train wreck of 2022-23.

I don't think there is an over-abundance of 6-10 centers weighing 300 pounds in most of the schedule. Hopefully not, but there were a couple last year and one of them we play right off the bat in the home opener. Remember this guy who scored at will on us and finished with 27 points last year: miamiredhawks.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/anderson-mirambeaux/8715He is 6-8 and 305. So we will find out early how we match up with this type of player. Hopefully we can throw enough bigs at him to keep him under control. SEMO has a couple of 7-footers around 250 but hoping we have more polished bigs that allow us to match up this year. These are just the first two D1 opponents. I agree that these matchups will be the exception, and not the rule. But they did cause us problems last year.

I agree that these matchups will be the exception, and not the rule. But they did cause us problems last year. Talented inside players give everybody a tough time and if the refs swallow their whistle like the did with Gage Prim at Mo. State and let him camp out in the lane, you got no chance. Especially when he hits 20 free throws and doesn't even risk committing a foul.

Humrichous is not skinny lean, but strong lean, so he will be able to hold his own with most.

I thought Michael Day looked pretty bulky for a freshman at Meeks Madness. Not sure he’ll have the skill level to make a big impact this year, but he could hopefully hold his own defensively if we need to call on him in a game.

Both Day and Hughes are bigger than is being thought here. I would say 250 for both, probably, and Ben is quite solid.
I don’t see our bigs being pushed around too much this year.
