Just saw on Anthony’s Twitter page. Graduate transfer from KWC with 1 year of eligibility left. Started his career at Bradley. Not terribly impressed but hey it’s a 1 year deal.

I'm wondering if his stats would have been better if he did not play for a bad Ky Wesleyan team.He also could have been the best player and had to try to do too much. He is a seasoned point guard but we will only have him for one year.

He has MVC experience (55 games) and received serious playing time/experience at KWC. I’m presuming that he was recruited by Wardle who has done pretty well with recruits recently at Bradley and presuming that Thomas left for more playing time or to be closer to his hometown of Memphis. He should be able to give us some valuable stability at PG while CB3 and Tanner learns the ropes (as a PG).
We are certainly a little thin at the point guard position/ball handling without a guy like this.
Rags and the staff are filling out the positions and needs nicely as they balance the short term and long term needs of the team.

We did need a point guard. He is a point guard and with one year of eligibility, Rags does plan on using him. Checkmark. It better work out because the wolves here will chew his toes off it doesn't. The hope was that we would mine the portal for pure eye-opening P6 gold. Now that the portal ship has pulled up the anchor, the Aces have a D2 point guard and a NAIA forward. I'm high on B-Hum and I don't thumb my nose at D2 guards. They might complete the puzzle and lead to a much improved year. I also know the wolves. The wolves are hungry and after a few early season losses, Rags and his recruits will look like well-marbled ribeyes.

Great find, STLScooter. Particularly like the link on Bradley’s message board to: prephoops.com/2018/07/prospect-spotlight-antonio-thomas-2019/Sounds like he was a backup to Darnell Brown at Bradley his freshman year. (Darnell lead Bradley in scoring and assists in 2019-20.) Bradley was 23-11 his freshman year and 12-16 his sophomore year. Sounds like a great pickup the more I look at this. Update: He averaged 17.5 ppg his last four games this past year. His junior year he had 100 assists and only 52 turnovers- nearly a 2 to 1 ratio.

Antonio's stats from last season that stood out are: He shot 41% from 3pt land which would have led the Aces and been third in made shots. He shot 74% FT which only trailed Antoine Smith but for almost twice as many attempts. He only trailed Marvin Colelman by 2 assists.
Hopefully he will embrace this one and done season and thrive for the Aces.

A couple more things about Thomas that should be noted:
Last year at KWC he averaged 29 mpg His junior year he averaged 25 mpg Per his coach he upped his scoring to 13 ppg when it was needed the second half of the season Because he was strong on defense he was always put on the biggest guard on the opposing team
He’s a career PG that will not be playing out of position at UE.

The wolves will for sure be howling for a little guard from Monmouth once this guy has a few bad games.

Hopefully he doesn’t turn the ball over like Coleman and Spinelli. I felt like we had numerous careless turnovers by the group of players that is no longer with us.

Hopefully he doesn’t turn the ball over like Coleman and Spinelli. I felt like we had numerous careless turnovers by the group of players that is no longer with us. C and S probably felt a sense of urgency considering the lame rotation. Either they made something happen or nothing happened. I can't say that I disagree with that but the urgency did create more turnovers. I believe this roster is somewhat better than the last one because there are fewer shy shooters. Point guards should benefit from that.

Mainly at this point, I am hoping these guys come to camp healthy and ready to do the work they need to do to remain eligible. Too many players have cluttered the bench over the last few years and if there is anything you need, it's that the coach can turn to his bench and tell a guy to go in there and bus-tass for 4 or 8 minutes. If any guy has averaged 30 minutes a game, that tells me he's ready to play ball. If they get 5 points, 3 steals and a couple of loose ball rebounds ... I will take that. Get a couple of charging calls to put their guy in foul trouble ... and you are golden. We won't have eight players on the All-MVC team. Getting one is a step in the right direction. Two gets us out of the cellar, especially if the other six are in the top half of the conference because of the bus-tass principle.
