Great pick up. When was the last time we have had so much size? Guessing you might have to go back to the Kenny Perry, Emir Turam and Richie Johnson days. Not 100% they were on the same roster without checking though.

Not 100% they were on the same roster without checking though. Kenny Perry played 1981 and 1982 at UE, transferred to SIU and played there in 1984 and 1985. Emir Turan played 3 seasons at UE from 1981-1983. Richie Johnson played four season at UE from 1982-1985. During the 1982 season all 3 were teammates. Richie Johnson started 26 games and averaged 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds. Emir Turan started all 29 games and averaged 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds. Kenny Perry started 2 games and averaged 5.5 points and 2.9 rebounds.

That was a pretty tall front line, not to mention some pretty good players. 6’11” Kenny Perry didn’t even start on that team (except two games). The starters were 7’1” Emir Turam, 6’9” Richie Johnson, 6’6” Theren Bullock, 6’’5” Brad Leaf and 6’1” Eric Harris with Kenny Perry coming off the bench. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/evansville/men/1982.htmlBut back to the thread topic: Yes you can tell Rags is emphasizing recruiting players that are good people, have height, are an offensive threat, etc. I think Josh fits all of these criteria. Not expecting a whole lot out of him as a freshman as it looks like he needs to bulk up a bit but I really like his skill set and potential. The future looks bright(er). Note: I remember seeing a 6’10” Kevin Durant in a preseason UT game his freshman year thinking he needed to bulk up or he would just get pushed around but that was before I realized his skill set was off the charts. Not saying Josh is Kevin Durant but you never know - he might be more of a contributor in year one than I think but I see him on the depth chart behind the more experienced front line players of Yacine, Sekou and Ben for sure and possibly as a redshirt but time will tell. Imagine the height we would have if John Bol came the following year. We can aways dream.

I am most impressed with his ability the shoot right handed or he has a left handed hook off the glass.

I think he looks like a great get.
As far as a potential red-shirt goes, him or anyone else, how do you think the portal will change a staff's thinking?

Obviously if the staff gets a good player in the transfer portal at a position a current player plays at - then that player is gonna be more likely to redshirt. Not saying anything that is not pretty obvious here.

I just wonder if there will be more pressure to play a player with a lot of potential in order to keep them from getting restless.

I think the staff will play the players that give them the best chance to win now or at least I hope so. If there is a “tie” the nod should go to the guy with the highest ceiling IMO. Players have to (or should have to) earn their time. But I understand what you are saying.

I wasn't impressed by Hughes' edited video but I'll wait until Aces44 weighs in. He knows more than most of us.
