This kid is willing to work hard enough to get his academics in order and practice basketball well enough to score a lot of points -- check that box as a positive.

The only walk on who has played meaningful minutes in recent years (maybe ever) went to South Knox, with 546 students in grades 7-12. Who needs the SIAC? Day School may be just right for a walk on, especially somebody who has a great academic scholarship. Good for Tyler!

I doubt he will be missing 2 foot shots when he plays. Maybe he can take Bobe’s place as the designated open 3-point shooter. I say welcome to the Aces Tyler.

There was a player that UE was recruiting a few years ago who was a prolific scorer and had a terrific 3-point shot. I can’t remember the details about the school he went to and the competition he played against but I believe it was smaller than Day School and Evansville Christian.
Anyway he didn’t come to UE and ended up signing with West Virginia. Last year he transferred to Ohio State. His name is Sean McNeil. So it’s not always the size of the school you went to but your ability to play the game.

He is clearly a high character kid with his priorities straight and a strong work ethic. If he accomplishes nothing on the court, I could care less. I’ve got a feeling he’ll accomplish a lot in the locker room and be a good leader when it comes to putting in work & doing things the right way.
He won the Lilly scholarship which is very impressive. Lilly scholars get full rides to any school in the state, so most chose ND when I was in high school. I think it’s awesome that Tyler could’ve gone anywhere of his choosing and he’s choosing to be an Ace. I would have to think that the opportunity to continue being apart of a basketball team was a big part of that decision.

Clearly Tyler was not signed to make an impact on the court. But it is important to have someone help with the overall culture of the team, and being a positive influence. Winning the Lilly award scholarship is incredible. Glad he chose to come and be an Ace.

I've seen rosters with 16 to 18 players.

I've seen rosters with 16 to 18 players. I believe you can roster as many as you want but only 15 can sit on the bench during games.

I know he is small, and may not play much, but I have watched him play twice and think he is probably a better shooter than anyone on the team right now.

It’s way easier to shoot when you’re wide open vs. doing it against a college level defender when you’re dog dead tired. Most can’t make the transition. Anthony Leal comes to mind.

If scoring is important, I'd much rather have a walk-on who is Evansville's all-time leading scorer than a walk-on who is far from it. And I would take Anthony Leal in a New York minute.

Seems pretty dumb for the NCAA to be so anal as to limit the number of players you can have on the bench. The D-3 Grinnell team has 18 guys and all of them play every game, at least 10 minutes. They might not take that many on the road, but I suppose that's logistics. The number of guys on the bench is equal to counting black holes in the 13th universe on the other side of the Alpha Galaxy.
Tyler Myers will get a chance to make the UE rotation, most likely as a sophomore when he puts on some "manly" muscles that high school kids typically don't have. After that, his talent is more important than his skills. All of us can learn to make baskets. None of us can be taught quickness. That's either natural or related to the other team being slower. Improving skills is compensation for some parts of it. Practice all day and still not manage the paint like Larry Humes did.

Leal would be our best player by a mile. Leal reminds me of Luke Brown, who had every scribe in the Indy metro area swooning because he scored 3,000 points at Blackford and spent the next four years deciding where to park his car at either Stetson, Stepford, Muncie, Stetson, Roanoke or wherever truly great Hoosier shooters abide. I think if we want the Aces we remember, we should actually try to recruit a roster full of them, put 5 snipers on the floor and defy the Frostbite Hackers to stop all of them. We won't need no stinkin' offensive rebounds. Just score 169 points and hold them to 160.
