Marcus looks more and more like Coach Roy each passing day. Gone get mine. I never would have thought he'd be going in this direction. Maybe it's best he resigned. I really thought Marcus would be all in in this rebuilding of UE Basketball. I am starting to believe he's all for the $$$ at this point.

The way this is playing out...that is with NIL, corp marketing deals, the players dramatic tweets about "top 8" teams, player's agents/handlers, etc -- I will take a guy like Chuck Bailey any day over many of these top recruits. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch… Chuck could very well enter the portal for an NIL deal after this season for all we know
That very well could be true, but all I have is the actions of players up to this point--- and with that info I still vote for Chuck Bailey.

None of you have any information as to what brought Marcus to Evansville from St Louis YMCA. You don't know if he was on a one year contract. Y'all conjectured that it was because Snow got the Associated head coach job that he left. Now you want to place him in the bag of Roy, that y'all detest! He is doing what a father does, guidance for his son in business. His Jersey hangs from the rafters. It Says Evansville. I haven't seen anything to change a mind that he is nefariously out doing anything against Evansville or his family.
Just my opinion...

I didn't claim there was anything nefarious going on. I believe, based on some of his posts to Twitter, that his passion for helping young international men to play basketball in the USA is strongerthan rebuilding the program. Like I said, perhaps he felt the program is headed in the proper direction with leadership in Ziggy, Rags, et al. I suppose it could be lucrative. I don't put him anywhere close to old Coach Roy's stratosphere. Let's face it, a UE assistant position compensation is wonderful to most of us. Comparative to other similar positions it's low. Yes it's all speculation and we'll never really know.

I agree 6thman.
Just because a guy is trying to do what is right for him and his son, doesn’t mean that he stopped bleeding purple. They are not mutually exclusive.
But I would refer anyone being judgmental and throwing him under the bus back to paragraph two above; and also to follow the facts which are few and not the speculation.
Note: Presumably it was his choice to leave; but we don’t even know that 100%. But so many are quick to throw him under the bus; which is not right in my mind - but it is a message board and people are open to share their opinions and thoughts - right or wrong.

This doesn't have anything to do with Symon Ghai. There is a coach's thread on this board is where it belongs. It started because Marcus gave accolades to Symon. Some of the fans on this board believe it's only to get into his pockets. Marcus knows this guy and Symon probably admire Marcus for who he is No higher praise can come to a player than someone they admire.

Maybe but don’t you find it interesting that he never tweets about UE anymore? Someone who supposedly has all this love and passion for the school. Something is off no matter what it is.

did he tweet about UE while at YMCA in St. Louis? Did you start following Marcus when he sign as a coach?

did he tweet about UE while at YMCA in St. Louis? Did you start following Marcus when he sign as a coach? Yes, he tweeted about UE a ton when he was a YMCA employee and MVC analyst. I’m not ready to jump to the same assumptions as Evilleintentions, but he doesn’t seem to interact with Evansville fans in the same way he did prior to leaving the staff. It’s July and there’s nothing Evansville Basketball related to tweet about, so I don’t think the lack of UE tweets is alarming yet. If he makes it through basketball season without tweeting anything about the program, then I’d say it’s a pretty clear indicator that there is now a rift between him and the program. Hopefully that is not the case. We should have a much better feel for what happened a year from now. Hell either be settled into a new career, announced as a coach at John’s new school, or announced a new basketball related business venture. How much love he shows during the season for UE will be incredibly telling. We’ll probably never know the full details, but we’ll know enough to not be making blind assumptions a year from now. Side note: Anthony wrote an article today about how USI uses scouting services for the portal and high school recruiting. I could see Marcus getting involved in a business like that with his love of promoting upcoming prospects.

Will be interesting to see if Marcus returns to ESPN as a commentator.

If you were a head coach, would you want to hire a players "dad" as an asst coach? Especially when they have little coaching experience. -- Not sure if that would be an ideal situation for anyone involved. (this is not an attack on Marcus, but in general a situation I think should be avoided for most players and programs.)

It shouldn’t be something that should be done, but there are countless examples of it happening in college basketball. Tre Mitchell was a top 100 player and went to UMass because they hired his stepdad. His stepdad had no prior NCAA coaching experience but was an experienced high school coach. Cade Cunningham went to Ok State because they agreed to hire his brother. His brother was a midmajor video coordinator before being hired as an assistant. Kansas hired Danny Mannings dad as an assistant in the 80s to get him to Kansas. His dad was a truck driver prior to the hire. Those are just 3 examples that come to mind. I’m sure there are plenty more. It’s not something that should happen, and the family members are almost always fired after the player leaves the program, but it’s definitely something that is in play for Marcus if he’s interested in going down that path for John’s recruitment. Hopefully that’s not what he’s after though.

I can connect all the dots I want and the picture is still not going to be particularly revealing. But I will make an assumption that Wilson left the program because he either saw a better opportunity or the program wasn't what he liked. But I doubt that UE or the athletics department told him to 'get lost and don't come back.'
That being my assumption, if Wilson runs into 500 decent players over the next few years, he will probably direct a few of them toward UE. That would be because, he probably has a good idea about a player and how they fit the program. After that, it's up to the head coach.
But the 4-star players are currently all feeling their oats with NIL, and until that settles down, the 'wish list' for really great talent should be handled that way. The top high school players are all being funneled off to "academy" teams now. Wilson isn't dumb to that reality.

http://instagram.com/p/Cwafq_XuG8h Looks like Marcus is mentoring Symon and helping him navigate recruitment/getting exposure. Really hope the optimists on the board are right and he is still doing his best to help UE. Looks like Amare & Kwame James were in attendance as well
