Is this our final scholarship?

Gotta like it! I thought we might have used the last bid already. Did we lose a commitment, or did someone reclassify?

We already had 13 scholarship players for next year since Lickliter gave Gage a scholarship before he left. So, I see only two options here (if Matus is going to be on scholarship this coming year). Either someone is leaving, or he possibly takes Gage's scholarship. My guess is that Gage is back to a walk-on status. Here is the thread from a month ago when it was reported that Gage was given a scholarship. Updated roster chart to include him. 15 players now on the roster. Ragland was just hired 18 days ago on May 24th, and we had six players on the official roster and just four true scholarship players plus three incoming freshmen (Logan, Moncrief and Zavieon) and one transfer (Sekou). The new staff has been busy and hit the ground running filling five slots in 18 days (Strawbridge, Coleman, Toumi, Spinelli and Malovec).

Here is some more video highlights of his game and a very short interview with him: Video highlightsInterview
He definitely has some offensive skill. Can shoot the three and drive. More of a finesse player, like most coming from the European game - so will be interesting to see how he adapts to the physicality of the American D1 game. Likely more of an off guard at the moment but could see him as a combo guard over time as well. Should be interesting to see if he can make it to campus for summer workouts. Would think it would take him a little time to sort everything out and travel. Good pickup. Red shirt candidate? His Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/matus_malovec

On the UE page on Verbal Commits it had him listed as committed but not signed. However the site is not to reliable since they have never listed Okoh-Chism.

Coaching staff must have really liked him to offer a scholarship this late in the game. Because the Aces already had 13 scholarships filled, means either someone has left, someone will redshirt, or someone got an academic scholarship.
This young man looks like a solid add. I love tall players who can handle the ball. Seems to have good fundamentals. Again, there is no way this scholarship gets offered this late if staff was not high on him.

But taller guards cause match up problems for other teams, they can see more of the floor when guarded, and can swing from backcourt to the front. This style of play is a strength of the European leagues where players are much more versatile.

Biggest thing not being mentioned here. He won’t have the “transition” that most freshmen have due to the fact that FIBA and the NCAA have the same distance from the arc. This will be a good thing, and I can see a. Pod amount of time on the floor for this guy as a freshman.
