I am going to close this poll and start a new one. This one is decided with McCollum, and there are several appealing candidates, such as Ryan Miller, Steve Pearl and Chris Hollender that were left off. If there is anyone else you think belongs on the poll, post it below.
For all the Hinson bashers, he did get two more votes than Calbert...lol

Take out his IU stint and he still has a lifetime losing record in conference. 105-113 Because of the horrible Georgia tenure, and even with that he’s only 8 games below .500. I don’t think it’s fair to remove the entire IU stint. The man won two Big Ten titles. Just saying that ANY coach would’ve had a horrible conference record the first 3 years with the situation he inherited at IU. 63-45 in the B1G after those 3 years with 2 titles. That’s a pretty good record. I mostly remember him for his great success at Marquette. I believe 6 out of his nine years there he got his team into the NCAA and was ranked in the top twenty....did go to the final four as well. The failing at Georgia was mostly due to his top recruits leaving. Happens. It is mind bobbling to me how some here want to act like Crean hasn't done anything....wow!!!

I won’t specifically bash Crean’s record, but… Have you ever met him?? He’s an odd duck

No...I have not met him. I have heard him talk. I don't consider him odd. But no worries....how Tom Crean got linked to the UE position is a total mystery to me. There is no chance of that happening.

I agree with 44 on this. He has had his bizarre moments. Personality, fit and community engagement are huge, and Ziggy has stated as such. I think other than a quick 20+ win season or being the former IU coach, he would struggle endearing himself to the fanbase. I can see Crean being interested because no one is saying his name other than a few half-crazed Evansville twitter accounts.

It annoys me to no end to see IU fans that have no vested interest in our program clamoring for us to hire him!

Another name that I haven’t seen tossed around but is certainly plausible is Chris Lowery. Are we all staunchly opposed to him?
I say throw him in the next poll just for fun

How about you join the adult conversation and tell us why Tom Crean is the best choice for the job? Sorry, but I would like a little more reasoning than glowing eyes in a twitter meme.

I would rather hire a younger up and coming coach or an assistant at a winning program than a retread coach. Crean is not Lickliter, but I’m not eager to hire one of the few people who had a worse record than TL this year. One of the best recent MVC hires was Darian DeVries, who was a longtime assistant at Creighton. (And no, I am not suggesting the current Creighton associate head coach - that would be Steve Merfeld). We are mostly speculating about former head coaches who have lost their jobs because they are known entities as opposed to successful assistants. Some of the best candidates are no doubt names that many/most of us are unfamiliar with. So I voted Other. I voted other also. I have a feeling that the next coach will be someone we have never heard of. I also hope that when he wakes up in the morning, he will think UE basketball, and when he goes to sleep at night, he will be thinking UE basketball.

He wrecked Carbondale. Weber and Painter had those skinny fleabags on solid ground, and Lowery destroyed all of it. He is only plausible because he is from Evansville. So is that guy that screams in the car commercials, should we consider him?

I never made an argument for or against him I simply said it would be funny. It's Friday, lighten up a little bit Francis

Surely the interview includes, “Well coach, you seem to be awesome, but do you like sleeves?”😉
