Better late than never in getting on with a new coaching staff. Ziggy is getting after it just days/weeks into his new role. The bottom line is, a change had to be made and we all know it ! Too bad it could not have been made the day after our last loss in St. Louis.
Either way, the main thing we now have to get right is our next coach. Given how far we have fallen due to the poor hires since Crews, the conference changes, USI and all the NCAA BS going on we have no margin for error on this one. Since Byers the coaching hires have been "O FOR" and the next coaching hire to me is the most important one in many, many years. So, get it right whether it takes a days, weeks or even months.

We have to get it right but no reason it should take weeks or months. If we don’t have a new coach within two weeks, we won’t have a roster for them to coach next season. We need to act with urgency and I hope we can fill the role within a week. I believe in Ziggy and I doubt he pulls this trigger if the groundwork wasn’t already laid for a fantastic candidate.

I agree and I personally think that the search has been underway since almost day one and I won’t be surprised if we have a new coach next week.

It wouldn't me either. It was encouraging that the current players were in attendance at the presser today. It's clear he is doing everything he can to engage them in the process and put them at the top of the priority. It is so refreshing and encouraging to hear an AD talking about our potential as a sleeping giant, and all the great things we offer instead of arrogantly making excuses.

I loved the part about wanting a coach who will be excited with the team when they win…but feel a pit in the stomach and ‘not enjoy’ losing. To me, that’s the anti-Lick candidate who didn’t appear to hate losing anymore.

With Ziggy not seeming to worry about the consequences and it already being May, I wonder if he was prepared to do this at Bakersfield and kind of has an idea of candidates. Coach Barnes hasn’t been lighting the world on fire over there. Have to wonder if Ziggy was about to pull the trigger there. But I’m glad he’s at Evansville filling a vacancy rather than over in California.

Of all those candidates continuing to be mentioned, it is still Marcus Wilson who I would most love to see be part of this program again in some capacity. I have said it enough that I'm almost tired of hearing myself say it. I certainly agree. Marcus is a great ambassador of UE Basketball. He impresses me with his knowledge and insight of the game. It would be wise for Ziggy to get Marcus involved in a major way with the program. He has connections and definitely the desire to see UE succeed like we used to.

Hopefully, the university will put the presser on the Gopurpleaces website. Full communication with the Aces community is important, to be sure alumni, fans, boosters, and donors are all informed. Gotta like the gumption shown by Ziggy….and it’s clear now that he has full support from the admin. As a comment on “national search,” I have to believe that a very short list exists, which is the way the big boys do it. You don’t make a move like this unless you have an option 1 and option 1a already in your pocket. I’m hoping the choice isn’t Crean. I know he’s a super enthusiastic guy, but he’s not shown a lot of recent success. IMHO, there are better, younger guys out there who can bring a fresh approach to Aces round ball. However, I think Ziggy has already been deep into this, and he will do a great job finding the kind of coach we need in a few days….but in any event soon. Well stated! Totally agree.

Like it or not,the timing of this decision is absolutely horrible. I believe the date was done on purpose because the players we have now can't put there name in the transfer portal. We just signed 3 new recruits, in which I feel sorry for them. And lastly we are conducting a national search for a coach.

15-53. Coach Todd had to go!
And from what I understand they can get a waiver because of the coaching change so I don’t think that’s true. And it’s not the end of the world if they stay. Teaching kids how to deal with a little adversity in life is not the end of the world.

Definitely not accurate and misleading at best. Ragsdale has already re-opened his commitment (with the option of staying with the Aces). As already stated, because of the coaching change, the players get a waiver and an extension till July 1st to make a decision. It is quite likely that we will have a new coach by the end of the month/May, which is well before the July 1st date. Obviously if the decision could have been made sooner it would have been better. But (right or wrong) the president/administration has been playing this straight by the book (in the sense that we get an AD in place first and let him make the decision) and the AD made the decision within his first ten days on the job; and waited a few days (because of finals) to go public with the decision. Ziggy has done all of this in his first two weeks on the job (and trying to move his family). So I think all of this says at the very least that the decision is Ziggy's - he made it as quick as he could and he cares about the student athletes. Go Aces!!!

The coaching change is later than we would have liked, but there are a ton of players in the portal (as well as high school players under recruited because schools are looking to the portal instead.) With a new coaching hire, some of the players who are not committed at this point may take a look at UE.
