I hope there is a LOT going on behind the scenes in recruiting, because on the surface, there is something that just isn't going right for UE. Whether it is coaching continuity, aggressiveness, not casting a large enough net, not getting in early enough on kids, whatever. The comparison with coach RSW's success on the recruiting trail is palpable. A mediocre recruiting result generally leads to a very average team. Now, with the previously denied, but inevitable move of USI to D!, the competition for local/regional players will be even more intense. If the recruiting process has become a game of numbers, and the approach by MSU, Drake, Loyola, Bradley seems to verify this, we need to be recruiting more good prospects, much earlier in the cycle.
Or, we need to recruit a HC who is a really good recruiter.

Remember the old quote from Jim Crews. Its hard to get kids to come to UE.Even during our hey days in the early 90's this was the case. Our campus is not the typical college campus that's why I believe UE should do there best to increase the enrollment.

Yes, agree 100%. The fan base dwindles because there simply are not enough local alums to replace the attrition of UE grads that attended when the school was 3500-4000.
I don’t see an overall strategy for anything other than small incremental growth….

I don’t see an overall strategy for anything other than small incremental growth…. Agreed! When UE had peak enrollment, USI either did not exist or was in its infancy. During that time there was a large number of local "townies" students that lived at home and commuted to UE each day. USI now has over 7,000 students. At some point in the 80s or 90s UE became a niche school to wealthy foreign student bases. All global activities since 9/11 have curtailed the influx of those students and the pandemic has probably shut down that path for the foreseen future. Let's not even mention the amount of high school students that choose IU or Purdue over UE.

It's going to be okay. Seriously, we want to recruit good college athletes who represent our school and city in a positive way. We tried to venture into the other direction with McCarty, and it backfired tremendously.
USI going D1, they will become another EIU-type program. Their new arena is a glorified high school gym. It doesn't compare to the Ford at all.
I think we're going to be just fine. I think Coach L is getting us moving up the dial. When Coach B takes over, we're going to be ready for the limelight!
