2-1 walkoff win for the Aces over Valpo. Lacy Smith, who has become my favorite female athlete of all time, with a single in the bottom of the 7th. First MVC sweep for the Aces in forever, who have never lost at home to Valpo. Sydney Weatherford, a lefty, gets the win. I think she missed a lot of the early part of the season. Tip of the hat to these gals for another gritty win!

Quite the turnaround for sure winning eight of their last ten games after a 0-17 start. I know Weatherford is back but not sure what else changed as usually they struggle more in conference play than non-conference play. The stronger softball teams seem to the Southern Illinois who is 5-0 and in first place and UNI who is 2-1 and the preseason favorite. Evansville at 4-1 is alone in second place at the moment. Standings are here. Valpo is likely a bottom team, but Indiana State seems to be a middle of the pack team and we split with them a few days ago (barely). So, I still think we will struggle to be .500 in conference, but this team has certainly turned a corner and we will see how long they can keep it going. SIUE on Tuesday and three games at Belmont next weekend are theoretically all winnable games if they keep playing like they have recently.

The freaky unfair nature of geography makes some of these records deceptive. The northern teams play almost all their non-con schedule on the road in the South. Regardless of the "equality" of a game, road games are not designed to benefit the visiting team. Sleeping in your own bed is not a flawed concept. Except for SIU, look at their overall records. Being .500 is a success story.

UE could be on the cusp of a mercy-rule win today. Up 7-0 in the middle of 4th. The rule is 8-run lead after the losing team bats 5 times.
SIUE is the victim so far.

10-0 in the 5th. This one is probably over. Brenton is pitching, though. She walks a bunch of hitters.
Nink had a granny in the first inning.
Final after 5 was 10-zilch. UE is 9-19 now after going 0-17. I don't think SIUE was much competition. Their 8th loss in a row.

The ladies lose 2-1 to Belmont today. Looks like they tried to ride the pitching of Weatherford two days in a row. Willsey with a HR for our lone run. Belmont's two runs were also in the third inning. stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=509529

The 1st place Salukis (29-8, 13-3) have been too much for our Lady Aces in the first two games of the weekend series as they have steamrolled us 9-0 yesterday and 20-3 today. Final game of the series is tomorrow at noon.
I don’t follow the softball team closely but seem they to have a small margin of error to win. They are 6-10 in conference but that is just good enough for 10th place in the MVC.
