The offensive scheme was a head scratcher today. Only 9 assists for UE today and that was a product of tough defense by SIU and poor offense and shot selection by the Aces. Certain guys have been able to find mismatches and be successful backing guys down to the basket, especially against weaker nonconference opponents. However, this method didn’t work well today because the Salukis are physical, but there was no adjustment. The Aces offense works best when the ball is moved and dribbling is a minimum. There were numerous opportunities to drive and dish or utilize the skip pass today to the weak side. Instead, all we saw was 1 guy playing back to the basket with 4 guys standing and watching, and 53 points in 40 minutes was the result.
The guys played hard defensively and battled today. I had no problem with the effort, but I didn’t see a team on the offensive end.

I thought we gave good effort today top to bottom. I thought the job Bobe, Haffner and others did on Johnson was very good for the majority of the contest. I was glad to see Haffner get to guard Johnson and he did a nice job I thought.
I thought Ben had one of his worst games. They were all over him making things tough. I was surprised at times he pulled up and took some 3s and fadeaway 2s instead of going right over the much smaller defender which he normally does by going to the basket. He tried to do too much at times but several guys did this because they were playing some tough, very physical defense as well and at times I felt like we were just standing around and doing too much one on one.
I thought Thomas had a good game but he should have been in the game more in the 2nd half because of his good first half play. A few games back Haffner had a great first half and did not play much if any in the 2nd half which I really do not understand. This is something our coach needs to clean up himself. I feel he is doing a great job but he, like everyone else can look to improve and this is one of the areas he can look to imho.
Hopefully next year we can be to the SIU level if our guys stick around, get stronger and we get more help in terms of shooting and physical presence in the paint. Both of these areas are weaknesses we have on the roster at this time and physical teams like the one we played today made it show.
Lets see if we can give the Trees some payback on Senior Night Wednesday.
Go Aces !

Bobe did a outstanding job on Xavier, then when Bobe went out his replacement did well also.I would like go see the play again when he was shooting a 3 and got fouled I know Rags wasn't Happy about the call.

I had a pretty good view of it from my seat and I thought it was a flop by XJ. I think Rags had pretty good reason to be upset.

I fully expected a flop call on that. That play, along with Ben rushing some ill-advised 3's when we were within 2 were huge. Of course, if he had made those 3's, we would be celebrating him as a hero today.

That definitely shifted momentum, but we had plenty of time to get back into it after that too and failed to do much.

The shot had already been launched then Kenny got under his landing spot.
Too many turnovers on trying to squeeze passes into small openings.
Guys standing on the perimeter while we have ISO ball -- not sure if Rags teaches them that or just lazy on making sharp cuts to the basket without the ball.

I read the post game comments last night on the SIU board. Almost to a poster they said Johnson is hurt and implied his lack of scoring was due to this. I'm pretty sure if that was the case the coach would not have played him all 40 minutes. In fact Brown and D'Amico played 34 minutes each and Rupert 30 minutes. Only BenH played 30 or more minutes for UE.

Ben seemed to be short on most of his shots against SIU. none of his fadeaway jump shots scored. Onto the Trees and let's hope we make some 3's
Let's Go Aces!!

We were simply out muscled. Recruiting must move up another notch. We just couldn’t bang with them, and the refs were letting them play very physically. It looked like a Big Ten game in that regard. Not Bens best game. He will be p#ssed next game.
