I can't pronounce his name. We can do better than this. We will do like MLB does -- his name is now B-Hum.

Got a feeling this is one of those "high basketball IQ" guys. Not a bad scoring avg on a team that primarily looked to their guards for scoring. I like the 2.5 assist per game -- besides Coleman we had no other player close to that number.
When recruiting a guy from NAIA, Rags is probably able to have conversations with their coach (who happens to be Steve Alford's son Kory) about the guy. So whatever Rags saw in Humrichous during the exhibition game, probably was confirmed by Alford. 2 years left of eligibility, so if he doesn't pan out, we are not stuck with him for another 3 years.
Grade: B

Looks like he has a Division one body. Not the quickest, or a great leaper, but with his size and outside shooting, and passing ability, he might create a matchup problem for teams. He’s also a math major, so he should be an intelligent player. I think he will contribute, but may not be the game changer we are hoping for. And I hope he proves me wrong.

Look, we are now in an environment (the portal, etc.) where there are very few “sleepers” that are not already known by the big programs. Because of this, and until we begin to be viewed as a “winning” program, the Aces are smart to mine the really good D2 and NAIA schools for the 2-3 kids who can take the step to D1. If Ben can average 8-10 pts. and 5-6 boards per game we have found a real nugget, plus coach Snow is the “big” coach we lacked for many years. Look no further than our history playing UNI. They have put teams made up by guys like Ben for years, and Jacobsen gets a lot out of them.
Put 3:guys with Ben’s size on the floor at the same time with a couple of guards who can handle the ball and score, and you have a nice foundation for success.
This is the first team that is really “owned” by Rags and staff. They are only going to offer a kid they are pretty darned sure can contribute right away, ESPECIALLY when he’s only got 2:yrs. Of eligibility.

Honestly, I think this kid is organizational depth, and gives the fans a reason to pay attention. The players who will actually help this team will be announced next month. I am just not all that excited about this. I am sure this guy can give you some minutes and his basketball IQ at Huntington was probably never in question. But this is the player you have to discuss for the moment. I guess that's fine.

Over the years when UE played exhibition games against what was considered lower division teams or teams from such places as the NAIA I have seen players that have just killed us with their play. In reviewing his video I see one of those players in Ben Humrichous. He has size and skills that are needed at UE.
If we could pick players off other teams they would all have the skills to make them a star player and a budding all-American. Well that’s not going to happen at UE. With that being said if we can pick off a few players that have shown the ability to score some points, grab some rebounds and play a little defense then we should gram that player. I think we have grabbed one of those players in Ben Humrichous. He may not be perfect but he has a game that will make the Aces better, much better.
Coaches keep churning the portal list and find us some more good players that will be fun to watch next year and beyond.

I remember watching this kid and was impressed with his ALL AROUND playing ability.

Hafner for Spin isn’t a fair comparison as Spin normally has the ball in his hands and Hafner is more of an off guard. Now, Humrichous for Phillips I see as a solid trade up, especially if Humrichous can play more of a wing instead of down low. I guess we can use Blaise Beauchamp. Fair enough. Hafner is an upgrade. BB was bad on the defensive end (and we all knew it), and the offense was to either shoot it from the parking lot after holding it for 15 seconds or turn it over after driving into the paint. Hafner played more in the flow of the “Martyball” offense at EIU, and can see more of the same here.

The upper crust schools are too protective of their prestige to mine the NAIA for players. Ragland has the courage to throw prestige and caution to the wind and sign a possible gem. B-Hum started every game for Huntington and averaged over 30 minutes. He wasn't a NAIA bench sitter. My hunch is that he will be quite a bit more productive for the Aces than was Big East Peace Ilegomah. There is nothing sacred about labels.

Never ever saw Evan do that in a game situation. I say he's an UPGRADE. Hence the more athletic part of my comment. He doesn’t seem athletic enough to take MVC defenders off the dribble like he does in that highlight reel though imo. Hopefully I’m wrong on that. Either way I would think the shooting will translate to the next level and having an athlete that can make plays like that never hurts, even if it’ll be less frequent than it was at the NAIA level.
