The UNI's are probably my least favorite team in the league. With that said, have to give them credit this year. Looking back, they actually remind me of the Crews era teams we had. Recruit regional kids who can play hard-nosed, bust-rear defense, sprinkle in a couple of snipers and add a tree in the middle. That has to be the hardest place in the league to recruit to, yet Jake plays the cards he is dealt as good as anyone. They are pretty fun to watch this year - but yeah, the Washpun team was a horrible, flopping team that was horrible to watch. My dad and I commented the same thing the other day (UNI reminding us of a Crews team).

I was planning to watch a lot of Valley games this year to see just ... whatever about the other teams, their top guys. Now I find that the winner of these games is just the team that won. It's not going to matter to UE.

Was not expecting Loyola/Illinois St. to be the close game this afternoon. Southern is absolutely taking it to Drake right now

In the eyes of SIU radio crew, ISU "collectively" has the best backcourt in the MVC, while UNI has the best "individual" backcourt play. Funny how they made this distinction, especially given the fact that SIU is the WEAKEST squad in the Valley right now.
Btw, does anyone else wonder if A.J. Green would've signed w/ UNI had his father NOT been hired as an Asst. Coach by Jacobsen?
Kyle has been at UNI since AJ was a baby. He first signed with UNI in 2001, and other than 2 very short stints as a HC at 2 non D1 schools that ended in him going back to UNI both times to be with Jacobson. AJ looks to have been about 11 last time Kyle came back to UNI per his profile on their site

For a team that was supposed to be decimated by all the people that they lost, Valpo seems to be doing rather well. I wish we were as good. Agree. They lost a lot of players so i assumed they would really struggle this year.

I'd like to know what recruiting visits he took prior to signing w/ UNI... Iowa State, Nebraska, Minnesota, Virginia, UNI were his 5 visits from what I can find. All offered him. Also looks like Clemson offered Also got a ton of looks from Iowa, Ohio State, Purdue, Stanford and Wisconsin. I think he may have taken an unofficial to Stanford. Also the Virginia that offered him isn't the Virginia of this year that is slightly down. It was peak #1 for 2 years straight, more or less, Virginia. I remember watching that one closely. He destroyed the AAU circuits. Iowa didn't offer because, from what I've found, is Jacobson and McCaffery seem to have a deal where they won't overlap on recruits once more interest is shown one way than the other, especially family. I remember seeing a quote come out, because Fran has 2 kids playing for him, that he they basically agreed to not go after each other and staff family. AJ was certainly under ranked, nationally, and under recruited with offers because his dad has been at UNI since 2001. Most assumed it was a foregone conclusion he would end up at UNI so they didn't try. You can go find articles from Kyle and AJ saying that they didn't want AJ at UNI simply because Kyle was. It sounds like Kyle pushed AJ to go through recruiting and experience everything he could. He pushed him to take visits to non-UNI schools. They were both quoted as saying many schools would recruit him but admitted they wouldn't offer, even though they wanted too, because they didn't want to take the hit of losing a kid to Northern Iowa. I also seem to remember that by the end AJ waited as long as he could to verbal/sign because he was waiting to see if a blue blood program would come calling.

Great info,"ytele!"
I was glancing over Iowa's stats. the other day & noticed that Nunge is playing less than 20 min/game now into his 3rd yr. (last year RS). Has he thought about sitting out ANOTHER yr. & returning home & playing for UE?

He's a Jr. now (Soph as far as eligibility), so he'll have two (2) yrs. of remaining eligibility after this 2020 season has concluded. By this calendar, he would finish in 6 yrs. & within NCAA requirements.
At 6'11", it's worth looking into. Doesn't he have a younger bros. now playing @ Castle?

MO St. def. Valpo in Springfield last night, 67-60, surrendering a 20 pt half-time lead. Looks like Valpo's trying to overtake UE for WORST MVC 3-pt %, hitting 8/39.
